If LSU had at any point hired Tommy Tuberville as head football coach, I would have seriously considered jumping off the bandwagon. His name has been kicked around a few times in the past, I think when Miles was hired and possibly when Miles was rumored to be leaving. Dude is a dirty snake and I wouldn't root for him if he represented my school.

I have been an LSU fan my whole life. It was passed down from my Louisiana heritage. Even though I have lived all over, I am still an LSU fan.

This is me minus the whole family pulling for LSU! My family is from Mississippi and my mom and dad and sister moved to Morgan City before I was born for the oil boom! I have moved all over as well and have always been loyal to my Fighting Tigers. I will always love LSU. Im a first generation Tiger fan and my three year old son is already loving LSU, despite all the Ole Miss fans in my family.

Could Anything Make You NOT Be an LSU Fan?

Those on the rant that think you have to be an alumnus to be a tiger fan.

By the way, nobody thinks this. This is just an overreaction by fans who feel threatened when they're put in their place and told that they aren't as necessary as they like to believe themselves to be.
Alumni & Donors who are OT Ballers > Sidewalk alumni > T-shirt fans > Bandwagon fans

Without alumni, there is no university much less athletic program. Without fans who aren't alumni, there are still extra-curricular activities in the form of sports for the students to enjoy. And not a single person on the rant has ever said that you can't be a fan if you aren't an alumnus.

Well said. I was as big an LSU fan before I went to school there as after I graduated from LSU. My Dad never went to college, but he was as big an LSU fan as you could get.
You don't have to step one toenail molecule on campus to be an LSU Tiger.
I was born with royal purple blood and old gold veins, and so were most of my relatives and a lot of my friends.
I salute EVERYONE who was born a Tiger, became a Tiger growing up, or has just recently become a Tiger.

What's a sidewalk alumnus?
A fixture at games his whole life. He never went to LSU, but he's actually spent so much time around the university that he could be an Ambassador. He even knows where that loosely-locked door in Allen Hall is, in case you need to drop an emergency dook.

You're too caught up in categorizing what "real" fans are with all this alumni/sidewalk/donor BS.
Does it really matter?
If a guy's sitting next to me at a game wearing P/G and cheering like hell for the tigers, I don't care if he's a newb or a non-alum or whatever else you want to label him. He's ok in my book.
The only time you might have a beef is when you're discussing LSU football (history/recruiting/etc) and some jackwagon wants to act like they know everything, when in fact they don't know dik. Most die-hards would prolly get irritated with this. It's like discussing football with a child....they don't know shite so I just ignore them...rather than make them feel like garbage.

I don't believe I've ever discussed whether fans are "real" fans or not.

Being an alumnus matters. Being a fan matters less. I would know since I'm both.

Same here.

My folks used to drop us kids off at my grandparent's house on Stephens Avenue when they went to the games, which was really cool; Maw Maw and Paw Paw had a color TV! My aunt and uncle, who lived on Hood Avenue, used to have pre-game parties at their house on occassion. Their two daugthers went to Lee (Classes of '64 & '71). My brother, sisters, and I all went to Lee (Classes of '70, '73, '76, & '79).

OK dude, what's with the FSU thing?

Weird, because FSU has always been my second fav team. Even before I lived in NFlorida for 20 years.

I was just talking to a good friend of mine who is from Alabama about this, I would have to seriously reconsider my fandom if we would hire Lane Kiffin.
