How good a coach is Brick Haley? Should it just be written off as a bad year or a transition period?

It's just been a long time since I've seen the LSU defensive line get dominated like they were this year (especially against LA Tech).

Thoughts?

Defensive line shouldn't be that difficult to teach. There shouldn't be too much of a transition required.

Obviously the bears didn't think he was a good coach. That should tell you something.

Earl Lane royally fricked up the guys who he coached so I think its fair to give Brick one more year.

I think he needs 1-2 more years. Woods underachieved his whole career, Alexander has been hurt his whole career, and Alem may just be a pass rush specialist. If guys like Chris Davenport, Sam Montgomery and Chancey Aghayere don't pan out, then it's safe to say Brick needs to get the boot.

He really wasn't even good at that this year

Don't worry about that, we're just that good.

Exactly. When a lineman gets to see the same damn move on 1st and 2nd down, it's a lot easier to stop on 3rd down as well.

Errr talent, maybe.

Experience?

Charles Alexander in his 8,000th start for LSU
Rahim Alem senior
Al Woods senior
Nevis been playing since 07

We didn't have an experience issue at all.

R2R, makes no sense, Alem, Alexander, Pep, Nevis, woods all had experience. This year there is FAR LESS EXP.

If Brick can teach technique, then I'm ok with him. That was one the biggest problems under the Lane regime. That guy refused to teach technique. If Brick can teach these guys to use their hands like they should, then things should be looking up with him.

Lane was great at teaching technique.... on how to hit up the potato salad during practice while a GA(Brumbaugh) does real coaching.

I never seen with better technique with a potato salad scoop.

I know he is getting on up their in years but i would love to have Pete Jenkins for 2 or 3 years with our young talent. Our defense would be awesome with Pete coaching d-line, Chavis-linebackers and Cooper secondary.

When he was let go many of the hardcore Bears fans here who really know their stuff were glad to see him go. I got called a negatiger just for saying that stuff last year. According to the players Marinelli is supposed to be a huge improvement - in technique and motivation. Brick aint all that most of our fanbase thinks he is just bcos he has NFL experience and a badass first name.

I think our DL is very talented, it just seems they are coached to eat up blocks and let the LBs and CBs get pressure. I mean we rarely generate a pass rush with our DL and if we want to win the SEC, that needs to change. We were able to get a good rush with our DL against Arkansas, then Chavis went with a 3-man rush because I guess he thought it wasn't fair we were making Mallett throw off target.
