choupique, I agree with you. SPEND THE MONEY. When you have a top notch program in the sec the money will come back to you. I dont know the exact numbers, but lets use saban as an example. Bama pays him 4 mill and the program makes about 65 mill. A small price to pay for a great coach. I think even with a 18 mill buyout you could come out ahead in the long run, if you could get a top 5 head coach.

Miles is a great guy, nobody denies that. But are you saying that Bama fans are actually upset deep down inside because Nick Saban isn't much of a people person?

Skip Bertman publically stated that they would not be paying "Nick Saban-type money" while searching for a new coach. Mark Emmert rocked the college football world by making Saban the 3rd highest paid coach in the country before he ever stepped foot on campus.
again, this is not true and taken completely out of context. There were no interested coaches worthy of Nick Saban type money, so we weren't going to pay that kind of money for the sake of paying it. If there was such interest, Skip would have paid. The search was a month later than most college coaching searches, and the candidate pool was limited. Why don't you post the link where Skip made this statement that under no circumstances would this money be paid to a coaching candidate? It's ok for you to hate Miles, but you don't have to make shite up to do it. There's enough real stuff out there.

We just like a championship or two every 40 years. We should go out and get a couple more in about 2043.

You said

On the positive side Les Miles brought honesty and integrity with him. As much as many here would like to paint him as a villian, he isnt.
So I said

My point is that nobody calls Nick Saban a nice guy. But nobody in Tuscaloosa is arguing that their money hasn't been well spent.

A buddy of mine had a great analogy... LSU football with Les Miles is in the same shape as Kentucky basketball was with Tubby Smith. Tubby won a national title after Rick Pitino left, and he always won just enough to keep his job. Meanwhile, Pitino came back to their big rival and started winning immediately. The two situations are very similar, and unfortunately after the Ole Miss game we are now just counting down the days until Miles loses enough that he can be replaced.
Absolutely spot on

Secondly, Kentucky basketball went to straight shite after they canned him and hired a hotshot up and coming coach
True, but the point is "average" wasn't good enough. Maybe they had to go through downturn, but they have the guy they want now.
