A hypothetical:
Team A is 0-7 and has lost every game by 20+ points.
Team B is 7-0 and has won every game by 20+ points.
They both have a common opponent.
Team A then beats Team B in a driving rainstorm 3-0.
Do you rank Team A above Team B, just because of the head-to-head victory???
Of course not, you must consider the entire body of work of a team. Sure, head-to-head games are very important, but they can also be an aberration.
wow, you're stupid. in the context of this conversation, you bring up totally irrelevant arguments.
LSU AND OLE MISS HAVE THE SAME RECORD. AND LSU BEAT OLE MISS HEAD TO HEAD. that's the issue. not head to head when one team is 1-7 and the other is 7-1. you really are stupid.

Yep, as I suspected folks are misinterpreting what this means: It states "Comparative outcomes of common opponents (without incenting margin of victory)"
I interpret this to mean that they will not take into account teams running up the score or INCENT teams to shoot for higher margins in games...However, you are naive if you think this means that getting blasted by 35 points is the same as losing by a field goal if all else is equal...

All else isn't equal, because the two teams in question have played one another and one lost. The one that is ranked five spots ahead of the one that won. So bad losses matter more than head to head, which is indeed incenting margin of victory.

If it was a final season ranking I would get your angst but I think they are hesitant to completely flip our position with Ole Miss due to the fact that they simply dont have to make these sort of conjectures. The SEC schools will settle out nicely as the weeks unfold.

It doesnt matter, beat Bama and we jump into the Top 10. Ole Miss and Bama fall below us
But then what happens if Ole Miss wins out and beats Miss St at the end? Ole Miss jumps back over LSU?
