It was a close race before with LSU winning by about 300 votes over Texas. Then the poll numbers mysteriously reset to zero, and Tiger fans went nuts.

No, the only way to reset the votes is to do it on purpose. A simple code change to the website doesn't affect a database table.
I emailed them and here is their response:
Thank you for your interest in College Night and the Voting Competition. We had to reset the competition because of fraudulent votes that were cast on-line. We would not want this to be an unfair competition, therefore it was reset.

Also, has anyone considered the possibilty that the network administrator figured out that everyone was cheating, and reset it to be fair to the other schools that are too dumb to cheat.
