College All-Stars game

I overheard some older gentlemen talking the other day ( in their 70s I’d say) and I’m pretty sure they were saying a team of college all stars would play the NFL champions to start the season. Is that true? I’m sure I could have googled it but I’d rather hear from some people who might remember this and have some stories on this subject. It would never happen today but man that would be cool.

College players just can’t compete with NFL players.

Yep... used to be played in Canton every year to start the NFL preseason! Times were different then... players played for the love of the game, not money!

national championship teams usually have a “few” players with NFL talent. Even the worst NFL team still has 40+ guys on the roster with NFL talent.

Looked it up on Wikipedia - the all star game ran from 1934 to 1976. NFL champs held a 31-9-2 record.

I can't say if this is the truth, but when I was a young lad. My dad told me that Vince Dooley was the last college QB to win the game. He went to my dads high school.

Nope, it was played at Soldier field in Chicago.
