Watchout for the nutster. He's a great coach
No, actually he's not. "Great" is an overused word in our society

Nutt is a rube, and a dufus really. In interviews he acts like an over-eager high school kid. He's a classic example of a coach who has more and delivers less. He can never seem to get over the hump, putting him in the average category.

He will get Ole Piss their 6 wins a year, and that's about it. Petrino is definitely an upgrade for Arky as a coach, but as a person has no moral compass and is a jackass.

Ole Miss could be a dark horse this year and has a shot at a winning season. They have a good coach, some athletes and a promising QB.

If Ole Miss is happy going 8-4 every year and fluking their way into the SEC Championship once every 8 years, then more power to them. Oh wait, they would be pretty happy with that.

I'm curious if you view Ole Miss as a real threat now with Colonel Nutt at the helm?

More than before, that's for sure. I think they'll be the most improved team in the SEC this year, in terms of record.

Ole Miss fans argue that they have a much deeper tradition than Arkansas,

Ole Miss fans have a grossly inflated view of their own tradition. I think Arkansas is more of a traditional power than Ole Miss.

Nutt will have more to work with

This I agree with on the recruiting front. Mississippi produces a lot of talent, so the players are there IF Nutt can get them.

I don't think Ole Miss has won the a conference championship since Kennedy was President.

1963.

quote:

With the exception of LSU, Arkansas has placed more players in the NFL, than any other team in the SEC over the past few years

That's a surprise. I would have expected UF, UGa, UT and maybe Auburn to be right up there and probably ahead of Arkansas.

quote:

we still have ZERO championships and only 2 bowl wins in the Nutt era,

2006 was a good chance for the SEC title, but the fumbled punt...

I think Nutt did a lot with not very much to work with in terms of talent. He had a couple of great running backs, a great receiver and a solid fullback, and parlayed that into damn near winning the SEC. But his teams have also laid more than a few stinkers over the years, too. If he was working with less talent than the big boys, then it would be no surprise that he could step it up once in a while, but couldn't sustain it consistently.

quote:

I think that Ole Miss will continue to be the Glass Joe of the SEC West, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Petrino will do with the Hogs. If he can kick it up a notch, you guys might have a TRUE rival in the SEC.

I'm still of the opinion that Ole Miss has a better chance of restoring the "true rivalry" between them and us than Arkansas has of building one. However, many aren't aware of the fact that LSU and Arkansas had a very bitter rivalry a long time ago, and actually had to stop playing the series because it was getting too nasty.

quote:

Hope you guys pour it on Ole Miss when you play them!!

I always hope for that, too, but a gut-wrenching, heart-crushing come-from-behind snatch-it-away-from-them-in-the-last-seconds demoralizer works for me as well.

I was the same way with LSU in the 90's

Hiring Houston Nutt is like saying, "we are perfectly okay with 8-5 year in, year out as long as once in a while he upsets somebody he shouldn't and/or makes it to ATL once."

and/or "Shreveport is a fine town in late December."

If Nutt does what he did at Arkansas at Ole Miss they will name a street after him. Any Ole Miss fan would take 2 trips to Atlanta over the next 10 years. Make that one trip and they still would take it. Ole Miss is going to be pretty good the next several years.

NUTT should put Ole Miss back on the map not seen since the Tuberville era and will stir things up in SEC West in next couple of seasons.
