I remember when he couldn't sign his own grandson who went to Texas. Grandson ended up never playing due to a heart issue.

Will try to keep this as short as I can.
My son was a HS Sr QB in TX in 2003. I had taken him to Tiger camps for years & he was raised with an avid LSU Dad. It was late in the recruiting season when my son says, “Dad, I will never know if I don’t try D-1”. Well, what’s a Dad to do? I send tape (VHS in that day) to a lot of D-1 schools, including LSU of course.
He got a letter from Coach Nader explains that they would love to have him, but the 105 roster was full for the year & he would be on the team in the spring. Well, my little guy ask, “So I just sit out a season”? That wasn’t going to happen if you knew my little guy.
We wind up cutting a deal with IU, yes, ironically DiNardo.
So I drop him in Bloomington on a Tue & he begins practice on Wed. Late Friday afternoon, the phone lights up. I recognize the number & sat on the curb before answering. I just had that feeling, it was Coach Nader, “ Mr.B, get him over to the football facility ASAP. We had a QB leave & he is on the team”.
I was speechless. In my silence, Coach knew, “He is somewhere else isn’t he”?
My guy had a great freshman year as the practice squad QB. He made the travel team & made it to Mich, Penn State & Mich St. Was actually the backup for two of those.
Would any of that happened with the Tigers? No, but I know where he would have been Jan 4, 2004 - dressed out on the sidelines of the Superdome & would be wearing a NC ring.
The bottom line - I or my son could pick up the phone today & Coach Nader remembers us, despite our short contact almost 20 years ago. My kid touched base with him during grad school in BR a few years ago & Coach treated him like a long lost son.
Coach Nader is a rare gem in college athletics …. a rare human being. Thanks Coach.

Joined LSU FCA as freshman on the club lacrosse team. Coach Nader served as FCA sponsor nearly the entire time it's existed at LSU.
I attended pretty regularly on Tuesday nights & Coach never treated anyone with less than full love & respect-including lowly club lacrosse players.
He set me up for leadership roles within FCA & got me to various events, including 2 Sugarbowl breakfasts (where he had me sit + present with Bobby Bowden).
All thru my HS & college coaching career I have been able to call him for anything I needed, which was mostly advice on how to handle a situation with a player or parent of mine. He always invited me to football coaches clinics & meet + greets, even when I wasn't coaching football but lacrosse. He always told me to keep networking & never burn a bridge because you never know when you need to drive down "that road".
If anyone at LSU deserves a statue or building named after him for all of his service -- it's Coach Nader.

I have known Sam for 40 years. He is always the same when I see him. Smiling and positive. Sam is the most genuine Christian mand I have ever known and Have never hear him be preachy....he just lived it.
I also never heard Sam say abad word about any of the coaches that served under his tenure. He was there for McLendon, Stovall, Curlu, Arnsparger, Saban, Miles and now Orgerson.
He played at Auburn but was a Tiger through and through.
Well done Sam...

When Coach Nader announced this past Spring that he would be retiring, he knew the thousands of players, parents, & former coaches he meant so much to would try to organize a going away get together. Sam immediately got with Verge who sent this email below to all former LSU players and contacts associated with football operations.
For nearly 5 decades, it was never about Sam. He requested emails and phone calls so LSU could update their address list and keep in touch with players who no one had heard from in years. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Sam Nader left the LSU football family in a better position than when he arrived
