i don't think many people hold spurrier in this high regard anymore. the game seems to have passed him by
that's why he's toiling at USC and not a more major program. i'm sure some rantards still think he's the best SEC coach ever, but it would shock me if they were numerous

Other than sheer cussedness to tweak Jeremy Foley's nose - I don't see the real hunger in SOS to achieve anything now . He has - been there - done that.
The man is a legend - he almost single handedly revolutionized the SEC in the 90s - he cowered other items into submission - he won SEC and National titles - produced a Heisman player - set the stage for Florida to be a perennial power.
I think he retires next year - now that the cocks have tasted some success they will want more than he is willing to provide.

So where are all the articles in the media about Spurrier's horrific clock management during South Carolina's last drive?
I don't know, but they should be all over him. In my opinion, his real error was in not calling the time out earlier, after the 3rd down play, when they faced the 4th and 1. He let about 15-20 seconds run off the clock there. Then, he used it on a later play after getting a first down when they could have hurried to the line and spiked it. So, he used his time out to save about 5 seconds instead of 15-20. I see so many coaches make that silly mistake, wasting tons of time to save a time out that they end up using to save less time later, or not using at all.
A former coach for UCLA (I forget which one) made the point very well as an announcer for our game with Alabama back around 2003. He said "at the end of the game, you don't need time outs, you need TIME". Using the time outs to save the maximum time you can is always the best way to go.

nothing except for some saying the refs owe Spurrier extra time. Where were the articles saying we were owed extra time since we've all seen the videos showing Lafell coming down with 3-4 seconds left on the clock?
Agreed. Spurrier should be criticized just as much as Miles was.

You mean Tolliver.
Yes, I did mean Tolliver. Sorry for that mistake. My attention was divided getting the kids ready for church. Thanks for the correction.

Not talking about the rant. I was talking about the lack of national media attention on the subject.
