That's more than LSU has punted in its last 5 games COMBINED (not counting garbage time). LSU has only punted 7 times in its last 3 games against top-5 teams COMBINED (OU, Uga, Ala). Clemson punted 4 times while trailing OSU. LSU has punted once while trailing THE ENTIRE YEAR (down 0-3 to Aub). Clemson punted 3 times before they put TAMU away (plus a 3rd punt in garbage time). LSU did not punt to TAMU until it had a 31pt lead. In total, LSU has punted just 22 times the entire season prior to sitting onabsurd leads. Ten of those 22 were against the state of Alabama, and as noted above only once while trailing.

Opponent: Punts*
OU: 1
Uga: 2
TAMU: 0*
Ark: 2*
OM: 0
Ala: 4
Aub: 6
MSU: 1*
Fla: 2
Tex: 2
Vandy: 1*
Utah St: 1*
Ga. So.: 0*
NWST: 0*

*not counting garbage-time punts to TAMU (4), Ark (1), MSU (3), Vandy (4), Utah St. (1), Ga. Southern (3) and NWST (1).

I think you have to count all punts for your post to have merit.

What a tough game. And still put up 508 yards of offense.

You're missing the point, which is to compare how each offense (not team - just the offense) has performed when tested. Garbage time punts are irrelevant. Since neither offense has been tested much this year, this is an apt comparison. The fact that Clemson has punted 4 times when trailing in it's 'biggest test' compared to once for LSU in its 'biggest test', is very telling, imo. Point being that it's more likely that LSU will have a greater chance to stop Clemson's offense than Clemson will to stop LSU's offense. That doesn't mean LSU wins, it's just an objective comparison where the results point in one direction.

I still think you need to count all punts for your post to have merit. Garbage punts is a made-up mostly meaningless stat.

I think you should count all of them too, but it'd be interesting to see how many of those "garbage punts" were when Burrow was already out of the game.

If you think 4 punts to TAMU sitting on a 31pt+ lead with the game over is the same thing as 4 punts to OSU while trailing (or even LSU's 4 punts to Alabama nursing a lead), then I don't know what to tell you.

eta: the fact that LSU punted with more frequency in blowouts over TAMU, Ark, Vandy, and Ga. So. than it did vs. Ga., Fla. and Tx. is a statistical indicator in and of itself. Counting those punts would tell you the exact opposite of what actually happened.

I don't think throwing a pass away to stop the clock or because no one's open is really an incompletion. But it is.

Just goes to show how strong that OSU defense was.

- sincerely the national media trying to maintain some semblance of interest in this game for two weeks.
