Orgeron is coming off a 9 win season and should have won the bowl game except for a blown coverage by the secondary. All this guaranteeing he will be gone is BS. Man, some of you act like LSU has a disasterous season. That is simply not the case. It's like some of you are hoping LSU has a bad year just because you want a new coach when Orgeron has not done a bad job at all. LSU is not going to fire Orgeron because a handfull of malcontents on Tiger Droppings are unhappy. That is laughable.

If all we wanted was someone that wasn't doing a bad job then why get rid of Les?

Both of which have to be handled successfully or else the outcome is a failure for LSU. To this point in time, LSU football has declined since Oct. 2016.

Okay.

I'm not sure what that has to do with my post. I was just pointing out that Firing Miles =/= Hiring Orgeron.

Alleva and FKing will blame it on our tough schedule

I can all but promise that they’re lining this excuse up already.

All the while, Tiger Stadium has 15-20,000 no shows and the athletic department is hemorrhaging money.

Alleva has already made it clear that the goal is to be competitive NOT to win championships.

And that is Reason #1 he has to be the first to go.

I agree but I don’t see a 9 plus win season and that is where he needs to be. That is what he was hired for

To be more specific, Alleva and the BOR have decided that spending money to try to beat/unseat Bama is not worth it.

They hired a coach who has no shot, they galvanized part of the fanbase to supporting a "hometown hero," to keep some butts in seats and will "weather" the Saban storm until he retires. And yes, this means the Aranda contract was the result of an impending disaster. That's money they were forced to spend because losing Aranda would have been catastrophic and they know it. We would have went from perennial 8-4/9-5 to an immediate losing record. I think O can keep up those 8-9 wins, Alleva is generally happy, and that part of the fanbase will keep positivity high.

When Connie Mack owned/managed the Philadelphia A’s, his secret goal was not to win the pennant every year, but rather to finish in 2nd place. Why? Because a 2nd place finish kept fan interest high enough to keep attendance up until late in the season. At the same time, the 2nd place finish meant he wouldn’t have to meet the salary increase demands of players who had just won him a pennant.

You're right. They saw that even SEC teams with middling success were reaping in a profit. Why put forth any effort to actually win, and deal with the resulting pressure, when you can just shoot for the average.

Kiffin is a game changer. You want to see Nick pull his hair out, hire Lane

Kiffin always has trouble following him. I can't see him staying here longer than a year or two before something happens.
quote:

Fuente
wanted him 2 years ago, but I'm now waiting and see how he handles VT this year. He'd be a top 5 pick for me though.
quote:

Neal Brown
Need to see more from him. He doesn't run much at all, and it's not like he's a pass happy coach. He does have Troy looking good, but a job like LSU seems too big for a guy like him right now.
quote:

Norvell
This is the guy I'm pretty high on. Love his offense, as he was under Todd Graham for a long time. When he left, Graham was let go two years later. He's consistently had top QB and offensive play since 2012. Riley Ferguson, a QB that couldn't get on the field at Tennessee, accumulated nearly 8000 pass yards and 70 TDs in two years with him. He had 80 total TDs in that span. For people saying that was just because he was at a lower teir school, neither Jennings, Jefferson, Rettig, Harris or any other LSU QB that transferred did anything at any of the schools they went to.
quote:

Venables
I'd actually be for him. He consistently produces top 10 defenses despite Swinney running an explosive spread offense yearly that averages 75-80 plays. Being around a spread offense for so long, he'll definitely want to run something similar. He recruits nasty front 7 guys so even if we lose Aranda, we can be perfectly fine.
quote:

Fleck
Don't know if he would jump ship so early, but maybe. I'd like to see him a couple more years at Minnesota first. I want to see if that offense he ran at West Michigan, can be replicated.
quote:

Jeff Brohm
He was on my list last year, lower down though. He would be lower on my list this year too. Explosive pass heavy offense that has top teir rushing too, but I'm not so sure of him as a top teir HC. Would kill to have him as OC though.
quote:

DJ Durkin
I think he can make Maryland worth something, but if he does, they'll have the money to keep him there. I don't know about him being good for LSU though, at least not yet.

I'd say top 5

Norvell - young up and coming coach with a powerful offensive mind and seems like a QB whisperer of sorts.
Venables - dangerous defenisve mind, can recruit well, has been around a winning team for a long time, will likely run a power spread offense
Gundy - consistently good success in Power 5 conference, great offensive mind, doing it for years.
Aranda - dangerous defensive mind, seems like a young Nick Saban from that standpoint. High intellect and comes off as a guy that could succeed in the NFL ranks. Just don't know about his offense.
Fuente - good offensive mind, has had success at multiple schools, just doesn't excite me as much as the others do.
