Don't you think Chavis' defense played a role in UT's 2008 TOP? At least a little bit?

If you don't get the other team off the field fast and give your offense good field position, your offense has little chance to look good. That's all on Chavis.

Not that I think Crouton is any good as an OC either.

Did you watch any games from UT's 2008 season? because it doesn't sound like it.

Sorry, bro...the kind of defensive coaches we want coaching this program to bring us the furious defense we all want to see are not all over the place.

Going just by 08 when the Tenn D ranked 3rd in the nation in total D and 09 when the LSU D ranked #13 in scoring D, I would have to think just those 2 yrs alone say he's anything but average and worthy of trying to keep to see what he can do in the future.

As to the "stats are for losers", then why the continual pizzing and moaning over the #108 O?

Will Myers go after Chavis now that George Edwards will be with the Bills? He was only there for a couple of weeks. What did Gailey and Nix do??? Could the money be that much better to leave Fl for NY???

I think you gotta agree with this....Thats why he's overpaid, b/c its a bare market for above average DC's...I dont think Chavis is Elite, sure, he's done it a long time and has had success but I think what it is is his philosophy....Fact is its a prevent defense that doesnt not win the down and distance battle, causing drives to be prolonged and the defense is tired by the 4th qtr....3rd and Chavis is not a myth, it just doesnt always happen on 3rd down...sometime 2nd...He does not bring pressure...he relies heavily on Dl to bring pressure and LB's to tackle on running plays, Pelini and Saban and those guys were damn near the opposite...It about what they preach...Problems with a prevent defense is ball control, time of possession and long fields for offenses to work with...Sure they dont get scored on as much which is def important it just puts a lot more work on the offense to score from longer drives...More work on a offense that has an inept QB, and a small O-line...

How many 3rd and 4's were converted this year...A TON! 2nd and 5's...damn near all...YOU HAVE TO BRING PRESSURE!!!!
younger players fold under pressure you have to make them fold!!!!

Until Chavis does this he will be above average coord and will not "win games for us" Whe Saban and Pelini was here we have an attacking defense that we could rely on!!! You cant tell me that you feel good looking at our defense, thats how I measure them if they look good and I have confidence...frick STATS!!!

And with them being as small as they wiill be next year....Holy shite he's gonna have to blitz cause everyone is gonna run it straight down our throats!!

In no way do I think Chavis is an elite coach. Elite defensive coaches usually get head coaching positions.

And when folks post some of these mock starting lineups for next year, I don't get too excited.

Last year, everyone that hated our defense always said that they gave up too much yardage, and that was the determining factor up how teams drove up and down fields.

Now this year, everyone is like the scoring defense is the most important determining factor.

Just face it posi-tards, you have accepted mediocrity, because obviously you approve of a bend dont break type defense, which was in no way dominant this year as you make it out to be. It was only an improvement on scoring defense. It was nothing dominant.

we couldnt get to the QB to save our lives, (sacks kill DRIVES, we should know that better than anyone) we never brought pressure to get to the qb to get a quick 3 and out...sure we manned up at times, b/c we could do it without a whole lot of risk, but our DL couldnt get to the QB by itself...and it never really has been able too, we just brought pressure with LB's safetys, coming from everywhere...you have to disguise it, hide them...mix them up, our blitzes this year when we did do them came late...it like the ball was snapped and the guy blitzing waited for 3 seconds then came...it was like a delay, drove me insane watching that Defense, about as much as the offense....

So, were you for Chavis leaving for UGA? We know what type of defensive coaches Saban and Pelini are but they are head coaches. Is there someone you have in mind that you feel confident could have brought in the dominant defense we want?

I know Ryan Mallet is the QB at Arkansas. That is why I was laughing at the other guy for saying he was the best QB in the sec in an earlier post.

Some people just refuse to give any credit to any of the coaching staff. It's really baffling.

you must have fricking amnesia. do you not remember how many 50+ yard plays teams used to have against Saban and Pelini's defense?? Florida absolutely burned us on big plays every year Saban was at LSU and Arkansas in 07 ripped off multiple long runs on our D.

a talented, sell out D like Saban had at Bama this year and at LSU in 03 is a very rare thing. 95 percent of teams don't have that kind of talent, and if they do they still get burned running that aggressive of a scheme.

I know you always play the idiot card and support this crap blindly, but if you think that defense warrants any credit you are extremely foolish. It's like saying yea, I was an F student until I got a tutor, and now I'm a D student.

I know every once and while you get burned, but comparing to how many 3 and outs we got and field position and all the other benefits of having an aggressive D Ill take that everyday of the week and twice on Sunday...In football you have to take risk, just calculated ones.....Chavis hardly does...if he started too I would like him immensely, I know he's smart and a good coach, just want more aggressive attacking D.... Setup the down and distance in your favor and you can more accurately perdict what the opposing teams play will be...just like taking a pitcher deeper into the count, I can more accurately perdict what he's gonna throw...causeing me to have a higher success rate...(for you # guys..)

Ill give credit when its earned...I know that the defense improved but damn near anyone in the country that half arse knows football could have improved Malveto's defense...so the improvement SHOULD have come...we'll see what he does this year....

You give credit to anyone Choctaw, so I guess you really believe that Al Gore invented the Internet?
