Grant Dozar at full-time 1B. Neither him, Edward, or Cunningham can hit worth a frick, but at least he provides good defense.
Don't know how bad Lowery's injury is, but just based on admittedly very anecdotal viewing time, Lowery just looks way better than everyone else. He just looks more skilled and athletic and powerful. I know going by subjective looks can be problematic, but what do we have to lose? Try him out at 1B as soon as he is healthy enough.
But for May, this is what I'd like to see as the lineup:
DH - Rhymes, .349, .391, .437
3B - Hanover, .291, .377, .318
CF - Mahtook, .387, .493, .766
SS - Nola, .339, .398, .505
2B - J. Jones, .318, .385, .455
RF - Katz, .301, .341, .496
LF - Ware, .429, .556, .571 (9 plate app.)
1B - Lowery, .364, .391, .455 (23 plate app.)
C - Ross, .256, .337, .282
The 6-7-8 hitters could be mixed up. It's hard to tell where to put them based on limited plate appearances for Ware & Lowery, but I don't think Katz should be put too high in the lineup with an OBP of only .341, although he is 4th on the team in SB.
Somebody said move Rhymes to 2B and JaCoby to 1B or 3B to give a chance for additional people to try DH. I don't know. Maybe. If Lowery can't produce at 1B, then maybe we'll need to try someone else to get Eades or Dykstra more chances.
I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to starting Dykstra in LF and using Ware as a DH either.

I know most people are against it, but but but I would lead Mahtook off. Im a firm believer in having my best hitter have the most at bats possible a game. Mahtook also is good at stealing bases. As far as 1B & LF, I have no idea what to do there.

Lowery, Dykstra, & Ware, bruh.
I wonder ... can Dykstra play himself some 1B?

dykstra is the second tallest guy on the team. he would play a mean 1st baseman

also, does anyone even come to the batting practice before the games. dykstra and broussard hit multiple home runs.

Jimmy Dykstra bio
He's tall.
He can pitch and play outfield.
His brother is a pro first baseman.
It would be strange if he couldn't play a good 1B. (EDIT: My guess is that he just chooses to focus more on playing outfield because he knows that most pro baseball organizations aren't looking for very many right-handed first basemen. That's not to say that he can't play the position though.)

As ironic as it sounds, Mainieri is in a win-win situation from now on if he makes changes. He won't get fired. If they make the SEC tournament, they also make the NCAA. Any changes he makes will benefit. Whether it means wins or experience. I haven't thrown in the towel either, but I'm realistic. 9 losses before the half way mark is pretty self explanatory. Still gonna watch and listen!

a 2nd consecutive year of not hosting a regional creates a pretty warm seat in 2012.
a lot of people dont want to hear that, i dont want to say that. but it's true

I doubt his seat even begins to get warm regardless of what happens the rest of the way.
Now he may be asked to make some much needed staff changes

we'd finally have an athletic 1B with height and ball skills.
NO!
Jones is a talented infielder and should not be wasted at 1B. We need is arm and athletic ability in the middle of the field. That is not a solution to the mess we are in, it is the entire team that needs a slap in the face to wake up! Except Mahtook of course!

Ehhh, not that warm. The more I think about it, the more I realize that this team is not really in terrible shape.
Mainieri's seat will only start getting hot if he has a disastrous signing class next fall, where everything that can possibly go wrong does. Barring that, I think the program will be fine.
Out of Ware, Lowery, Dykstra, and Eades, I really do think we're going to see 1 or 2 players step up and provide a huge boost to this team.
There are a lot of teams out there not scoring very many runs. If this team can just get a little bit better at not making so many stupid outs (including with all the stupid sac bunts), then we'll be fine for the rest of this season. They might lose a regional on the road again, but I think that a lot of positives will emerge late in the season even if that happens.

1. Rhymes - 1B(w/o Lowery)/DH - Best hitter other than Mahtook.
2. Hanover - 3B - Best bat handler to bunt, hit and run, provide productive outs when Rhymes is on and set up for Mahtook.
3. Mahtook - CF - Obvious.
4. Nola - SS - Cannot harp on power numbers here. There is no other legit guy on this team outside Mahtook to give you a scary 3-4 combo. Jones is not ready and Katz Ks too much. Nola is the best option we have for when opponents pitch around Mahtook.
5. Katz - RF - .300 hitter with a little pop is about as good as we can do hear despite the lack of productive outs due to Ks.
6. Jones - 2B - Needs to be in as fastball friendly position in the lineup as we can get him where he still offers a threat. This is why he was so deadly in the 9 hole.
7. Edward/Lowery - DH/1B - Edward can look bad at times but he's still a bit more consistent than Ross.
8. Ross - C - Pretty much by default.
9. Ware - LF - Going to be rusty but have to give him a go b/c he cannot be any worse. May even allow him to acclimate back faster. Has shown good judgment at the plate so walks and speed could be a catalyst for the top of the order.

I agree.
We play Auburn, Tenn, and Kentucky at home later this season (AUB next weekend) and we can sweep all 3 series! Call me crazy but it is very realistic!!
With those results and a series win against Alabama and Miss State, we can finish the season 16-14, which includes another sweep on the road to Vandy. Thoughts?

Tennessee is truly awful this year. Anything less than an overpowering 3-game sweep would be an embarrassment. I think they've scored 4 runs in their last 7 SEC games, so our goal should probably be to shut them out for all 3 games.
Kentucky is also bad, but slightly dangerous in their ability to score some runs.
Auburn & Miss. State are no joke. They are roughly on par with Arkansas & Ole Miss.
Vanderbilt is probably the best team in the country right now. They might finally put up a national title banner in Nashville this year to go beside the one for women's bowling.

Take 5 of 6 from TN & KY.
Take 4 of 6 from AU & MS.
Take 2 of 6 from AL & VU.
I think this team has the potential to finish at 11-7, for a 14-16 SEC record.
Arkie made the 2009 CWS at 14-15, and considering the outrageous strength of the SEC conference in college baseball this year, I suppose a 14-16 record would not be all that bad.
