I'm sure a lot of people got them watching it on TV...

Does that give them the right to pose as if they spent the best years of their life attending LSU?
LSU was the single greatest experience I have ever had... now anyone can buy a hat and they are just as big of a fan as me?

If you feel the need to be a 'bigger fan' than the next guy.. you're obviously compensating for something. You should be happy that your school and team are being recognized nationally and get over it.
I haven't attended LSU (yet, January

Yeah when LSU students don't show up for the womens NCAA tourney game on NATIONAL TV or Pack the PMAC when the mens play on National TV but regular LSU fans show up and cheer on the team no matter what the record is. But when the teams start doing good then some LSU students turn out to be the BIGGEST fans.lol.

Obviously no one believes they are part of the team, but in a way, paying for a jersey, tickets to games, watching them when they're on TV to boost their ratings, etc. contributes to that team staying where it is.

No they can't so they can't say we.

Yes they can because being a fan has nothign to do with having gone to school there

That's a WHOLE thread in itself.

Who cares. Say what you want. If it bothers somebody, let them deal with it.

@bayou2003 --- this is not personal, so please don't take it as an insult directed to you
And that is my precise point .... you pay only money. I, who also pay LA taxes not only pay money
but as a student and a teaching assistant for several years literally devote my service. A part of my life IS LSU. And there lies the difference.
Another case that refutes your point: Many LSU graduates work in Houston. And even though they don't pay state tax, they do contribute to the Tx's revenue by other taxes like property taxes etc. So by your definition, they qualify to be an alum of UT right?
Thirdly, if tax $s are qualification enough, you are a alumni of all state schools I presume.
Lastly, I again want to make the distinction of LSU athletics from LSU. Any fan/booster can be a part of LSU athletics. But sayin any one is a part of LSU is simply not right.

You are missing the point. Just because you give money to something doesn't mean you are part of it i.e. say "we". But at the same time just because you aren't an alumni doesn't mean you can't be the biggest LSU fan out there the two have nothing do with each other. An earlier post says it the best that after NCAA basketball tournament can we send a check to the winners' athletic department adn then be able to say we...Hell no. We is exclusive. And that exclusion comes from being a part of that university in some capacity...whether it be a student, coach, player, profesor, alumni or even janitor
Let's take this to the pro level for a second.. If you pay money to the Saints for season tix, can you say "WE", when referring to the Saints?
If it applies there, it's the same at LSU. I didn't go to LSU, but my two sisters did. I worked for LSU's flagship radio station,.. Where does that put me?
"We" is who bought season tickets this year. "We" is Alumni, teachers, LSU facilities personnel. "We" is whomever feels complete joy when LSU wins and gets shaken to their roots when LSU loses.
"We" is what makes LSU fan base stronger.

Non-alums just don't understand and I dont expect them to!

If you buy season tickets, you are LSU's backbone.

As long as MY money goes to TAF I will use WE and much as I please.
Posted on 3/30/09 at 11:16 am to Rouge
Born and raised in Baton Rouge I grew up a tiger fan. To me cheering on LSU is about community/state pride. When it came time to pick a college and major LSU did not offer what I wanted to pursue so I decided to go out of state. However I bleed purple and gold more so than some of my friends who are LSU alum.
So if you feel the need to tell me I shouldn't be an LSU fan you can do one of two things. Either pull that stick out of your arse....or shove it further up in there. Whatever works to get you to STFU.

What a sad little person you must be then. FWIW, I have two degrees from LSU homey and I still don't have a problem with a non-alum saying "we" if he/she truly loves the school for everything that it is. NOT just when WE'RE winning NCs.

I'd like for someone to say Cowboy's season ticket holder's can't say we. Hell "we" are help paying for that new stadium and players High Salaries. That goes along with Yankee's Season ticket holders.lol. They should be able to say "we". Without "we" then you don't get great players, nice stadiums, etc.
In Kansas City Jackson County residents should be able to say we. They VOTED for over $600million to pay for renovations to both Kauffman and Arrowhead stadium, but "we" voted no for an additional $200-$300 million for the roof that would of covered both stadiums. So yes tax payers and season ticket holders can say we. I don't see where Mike Golic is coming from. Because "we" can VOTE NO and start spending TAX dollars for better schools, roads, etc but "we" decided to pay your salary and renovate or build you new stadiums with our hard working dollars.lol.

Any fan of any team who considers themselves to be a part of the fan base of this team can use the term we. WE (fans of this team).
The only exeption should be someone who calls themselves we with more than one team in the same sport.
For example; I was raised in Cleveland and when talking about Cleveland sports team or Ohio State I always use we. I also like the Patriots, Saints, and have become an LSU fan but would not feel proper using the term we with them.

If you're from the state of Louisiana or have family that are LSU fans but happen to live OOS, you can still say WE IMO. If you're just some schmuck in Baton Rouge that likes Duke because they were good growing up then no, you can't say "we" IMO.

I'm not saying anyone can't be a fan... thats fine, I appreciate the support.
It gets me when people make it sound like they went to school there when they didn't.
I've heard a few people say "yeah, when I was a sophmore LSU won the NC." but, they don't clarify that they were a sophmore at LA Tech.
