This is how a radio play-by-play man hired by a university should sound when he's doing a football broadcast. It's Larry Munson, generally considered the greatest radio college football announcer of all time, even by folks like Rece Davis.
Larry did the Georgia Bulldogs, and he has a number of incredibly classic calls. The first is from the biggest game of that 1980 Georgia national title season against Florida to stay undefeated, the play that won the game:
Munson GOAT play-by-play
Here's one of his classics for the first 60-yard field goal in NCAA history and unheard of for an old-fashioned, straight-footed kicker in the 1980s:
60-yard FG call
More classic Munson calls, including the legendary ones about Herschell Walker:
"Oh, you Herschell Walker!"
As you can see and hear, Larry's calls were electric and drenched with drama and energy and a die-hard love for Georgia football. The homespun flavor was epic! Every Dog fan was satisfied! He was a pure legend! Radio sports broadcasting entertainment at the highest level!
Instead of, "Georgia is headed to the Sugar Bowl", it was an emphatic shout, "Sugar is falling from the sky! Sugar is falling from the sky!"
