Some Conferences have delayed. Because of this have some of the LSU early season games been cancelled? Just spoke to a big 12 friend he says Texas is planning to play a full schedule. I thought Big 12 went conference only. I have also seen post that Texas LSU might be still on if TV wants it.

No changes have been made to LSU’s schedule yet. Some things more than likely will be but nothing has been official yet. I believe the SEC AD’s are meeting this week.

I really don't understand the conference only mindset. What's the difference between the University of Texas travelling to Manhattan, Kansas to play KSU and travelling to Baton Rouge to play LSU?

Just spit balling here, but maybe the thought is if the conferences operate as stand-alone leagues this year they could potentially prevent outbreaks from wiping out college football all together. Also, reducing to conference only COULD reduce # of games without a scheduling clusterfrick...

That, and there was buzz that some of these conferences had interests in breaking away from the NCAA anyway. Trial run under the mask of COVID prevention? Who knows...

I think you made a couple of valid points. Especially the one based on a conference agenda to distance themselves from the NCAA.

It's mostly to maintain control over the schedule. There is no central authority in power 5 football, so there isn't someone organizing all of this to ensure it runs smoothly. Going conference only allows a single entity to control all aspects(conf commish) so they can better workout schedule conflicts, cancellations, etc.

Honestly
We are looking at a delay to start of season
No way they kickoff labor day weekend
It will likely be delayed and I think SEC ends up with a conference only schedule at that point

The only team we’ve lost right now is Southern, whom we had no business playing in the first place.

I imagine the ball is in Texas’ court. I’d be very surprised and disappointed if Woodward and O did anything but reiterate that they are expected to face us in Baton Rouge this fall.

LSU was never scheduled to play Southern in 2020.

For one The conferences can make sure that every school In their conference follow a specific set of guidelines effectively creating a conference bubble.

The second reason is for the games where the school pay a team to come play them. They don’t have a way to get their money back if people are not allowed to go to the games. Unfortunately you can’t cancel some non conference games without cancelling all of them so the big games have to be cancelled as well.
