He didn't throw but what 30 pitches last night? Do you think he could go 3-4 innings today?

23 and 20 were fastballs. Yes, he's available today for as many innings as necessary

Ok good. Crazy that 23 pitches is on the high side for him haha.

His velocity was down yesterday as compared to the first couple games. Maybe an inning or 2. Doubt 3

Was just popping over to ask this as well.

He's going to be big if it comes down to the wire tonight

I think he could, but I think you only see that scenario if we go extra innings

For us to win, I think we are looking at something like Gilbert for 4-5, 2-3 innings out of a combination of peterson/bush/newmann, and finish with hess

96 yesterday

go watch the FSU replay and his velo. There were several pitches yesterday that were 94 or less that were fastballs. Against others he has been 97-98 with a lot of 96's in there.

Bump. Hess will need a game off according to Dunn and CPM.
But but but . He hit 96 once or twice the game before... this guy in relief sits at 96-97, not hits it once or twice on 23 pitches.
As a starter he will sit at 93-94 and use that power curve. He needs to command change that is about at 80 and be able to throw it in any count.

Still think he ought to stay in the bullpen next year unless absolutely needed as a starter. Walker, Gilbert, and Peterson as the starters. Walker not being able to go because of this injury is the only reason I see to put Hess in the starter role.

You have a proven closer. Why change that? A closer is just as (if not more) important as a starter. He can be the difference between a 1 or 2 run win and a 1 or 2 run loss. Hess has that stuff that gives you the confidence that when he comes in in the 8th or 9th, you are going to win.

And when he follows a guy like Walker or Gilbert, neither of which has overpowering stuff, he's almost untouchable. As a starter, I don't think he has that.

Not that I would be mad if he's a starter. But man, him as a closer just makes me feel we aren't going to lose games because of our back end bullpen guys.

Yes. Let him throw, because he can have surgery in off season and possibly make it back his sophomore year.
