i like the zone-read triple option out of the 2-back shotgun set. little things like that help your primary back over the long run

you only have to run it a few times to lead to major potential payoff, and it's not going to be a negative play often

This isnt an issue this year. Its a big time strength. Every team we play now has its base defense completely thrown out the window to stop our I formation. And it wont matter how good harris gets.......they are still going to load up the box.

I prefer the shotgun, too, because of Harris's speed and running ability.

i don't mind a traditional formation as our base. i just hate the fricking i-formation as our base

but the shotgun is a valid every down formation and i believe in multiple sets with the same personnel

running a personnel package of a single back and 2 TEs means we can run all sorts of formations without issue (esp with smith and jeter at TE)

running a personnel package with a FB tells the D exactly how we're going to line up in the box. i just find it limiting

I've been wondering as I watched Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, TTech, etc. yesterday...

Does Texas high school football make their defenders SOFT?

We know that the shotgun-read option attack dominates the sport there... is there something about constantly defending it that makes Texans pursuit conscious rather than contact happy?

Why doesn't ANYBODY in Texas have a good defense?

strong is trying to build one

you cannot consistently stop a top-flight offense (and they face them almost every week in the big12), so adjustments are made defensively to try to concentrate on big plays (turnovers/sacks) and limiting red zone scoring. that also requires quick/fast defenders, which gives up physicality

i mean that conference has a lot of coaches who would love to play ball control/defense (stoops, snyder, patterson, strong, etc) but it's just not an option over a 12-game season in the big12
