It’s difficult to win when your defense is giving up 33 points per game.

He hung 38 points on the Ravens. I’m also certain he didn’t call three straight runs into the pile counting on a 50+ yard field goal for the win. He has possibly the only coach in the NFL I wouldn’t trade Dennis Allen for.

He was one block away from winning the Super Bowl in his first full season as an NFL starter what are you on?

For competitors, it's about more than just money. Any team without a legitimate qb in the NFL would pay him what he's getting paid there.

So 5 years on the original contract then 3 franchise tags takes the player through their 20s into their 30s. And again, it doesn’t usually play out like that because of the risk of injury while playing on a one year deal. Top tier QBs rarely reach free agency until maybe the twilight of their career.

I understand, but your original comment to me was this:
quote:

Legit question: do you know anything about NFL free agency? Are you aware that teams can lock a player out from ever reaching free agency

So you questioned if I knew anything about NFL free agency then stated something wildly inaccurate. If you’ve got a problem with how the NFL structured contracts that’s fine. But he willingly made the decision to sign a long term decision to stay with what y’all saying is such a terrible team. And he is taking up a large portion of their salary cap in the process. Thats just how it is when you are drafted as the #1 overall quarterback.

Franchise tag. Never playing for another team would be an extreme outcome, but if you’re a premier player, the team that drafts you controls you throughout your prime years.
a team can only franchise tag a player 3 times, and each is for one year.

So yes, a team can hold onto a player for 3 extra years, but that's it, unless the player wants to sign another contract with the team.

Never feel bad for a multi-millionaire. They would laugh at your sympathy and go back to their amazing lives.
