Where does Brian Kelly rank among college coaches right now? I'd say probably top 5, right?

I think he’s tied with Day and Riley for playoff guys that have have flopped in the big games. Of those three he’s had the least talent to work with.
My ranking would be:
Saban.
Dabo. (More ships than smart but on the downtrend)
Smart. (Less ships but more momentum)
Lincoln/Day/Kelly (all playoffs but all flops, Kelly also has the Nc appearance) Day has it by far the easiest of the three so far with what he’s inherited.

that's pretty good. I think Smart has an argument for 2nd, but that's subjective.

You have to take into account more things than just championships. Kelly has an argument for number two because of what he’s done at ND. ND will never win another national championship unless they lower their admission standards (which ain’t gonna happen). Yeah they have a shite ton of money to throw around but if 90% of the top 200 athletes can’t get qualified for acceptance into your school, you are playing with the deck stacked against you.

Riley and Day both inherited strong programs. Notre Dame had been a mess for a long time when Kelly arrived.

Saban then Kelly for the job he did at Notre Dame. Kirby has wasted so much talent. Took him 3 #1 classes to build almost 2 staring defense’s on the same team to win a NC, Kelly would’ve won a NC years ago at Georgia with all Richt’s and smarts talent
