BATON ROUGE, La. -- LSU freshman shortstop Alex Bregman was named SEC Player of the Week Monday by the league office.
Bregman hit a remarkable .632 (12-for-19) in the Tigers’ four wins last week with two doubles, three RBI and six runs scored. He collected three hits in each of the Tigers’ four games, including a three-game SEC sweep of Auburn.
Bregman delivered the game-winning, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 13th inning Wednesday in the Tigers’ 2-1 victory over Northwestern State. He hit a sizzling .692 (9-for-13) in the Auburn series with one double, two RBI, five runs scored, two steals and a .714 on-base percentage.
Bregman, a product of Albuquerque, N.M., is LSU’s leading hitter this season, batting .422 with eight doubles, two triples, two homers, 22 RBI, seven stolen bases and 26 runs scored.
Bregman’s recognition marks the second straight week LSU has received SEC Player of the Week accolades. Senior first baseman Mason Katz received the honor last week after leading the Tigers to a series victory at Mississippi State.

Matt Kent won Freshman of the week, i thought Bregman would win both of the accolades.

Yeah doesn't make a lot of sense to win POTW and not freshman as well, but I guess it's just a way to make sure they recognize two different people. I predict it won't be the last time for Bregman
