part of me wishes he would pitch to contact just a little bit more so he could keep his pitch count down some.
Contact leads to hits, errors, and runs. Give me the strikeouts every time.

164, which is 2nd all time in a single season.

38 to tie Ben.

He has a legit shot at getting the record before Omaha

The national strikeout record in a season nationally is 234.
did a little research. that Hawaii pitcher, Tatsuno, put up that record back in 1979 when teams were playing 70+ game seasons. He pitched 174.1 innings which equates to 12.1 Ks/9.

Skenes is currently at 17.1 Ks/9. After the UGA game he is at 164 Ks now, so 70 Ks short of the all-time single season record. He’s averaging 12 Ks per game so if he held that average through 5 more starts he’d fall just short of the all-time record with 224 Ks to the record-holder’s 234.

If he gets the chance to start 5 more games that’s about 35 more innings pitched on top of his current 86.2 IP so all in all about 122 IP.

To fall just 10 Ks short of the record holder in 52 less innings pitched would be incredible.

Moral of the story is: Paul Skenes is having a legendary season and if LSU makes it to Omaha he will have a chance to put up all-time numbers.
