Hey, listen, I hear you. The topic is too complicated to do via keyboard. I agree that promotion on merit is best. But the point is that we have a history of not promoting on merit. My initial point was the Warren Moon point. He wasn't drafted because at the time coaches didn't think that African-Americans made good quarterbacks. Like it or not, that says something about the current issue - whether or not leadership thinks that blacks can be good coaches.

Again, what does me being able to name them have to do with anything? In 1999 I couldn't have named Bob Stoops. In 2001 I couldn't have named Mike Leach. My being able to name them is irrelevant.

What I'm guessing your point is, is that blacks aren't being hired because there are very few good black coaches. OK. But it's not enough just to say "there are no good black coaches." The real question here is why aren't there any good black coaches?

We are HOPEFULLY about to hire a new DC for LSU. I would have ZERO problem with hiring a black DC, but he's got to be an aggressive proven coordinator with a track record of success because LSU simply cannot afford to gamble anymore. We've already seen what gambling can do with two unproven white coordinators here. It's got nothing to do with skin color, and everything to do with capability. If you know of one, I would like to hear it, and if we can get him I think Miles should entertain the idea, but if not, then that just speaks volumes as to why there aren't anymore black head coaches in CFB today. It's got less to do with racism and everything to do with the lack of candidates ready to make the jump, which is a very big one indeed.

What is the percentage?
67% of NFL players are black. I'd guess that at the BCS level it's roughly the same; certainly in Division II and III there are more whites.

ETA: This also assumes that punters and kickers count as "football players"

Okay, fellas. It sounds like the conversation is ongoing. I'm out. Wish we could continue over a beer at the halftime of our bowl game. Then again, we'd probably have a lot more to talk about during the halftime of our bowl game. An ACC team may be kickin' our butts then!

See ya.

NO, what my point is, and there's no need to guess because I've been very clear, is that there aren't many black coaches PERIOD in college football, and I don't know why, but there are none off the top of my head that are being considered for vacancies anywhere at the moment.

How many white guys (non-European) are in the NBA? Let's hear a show on that!

They actually have spoken on that to some degree. They claim that foreign players don't grow up with a inferior complex when it comes to playing against black B-ball players. They attribute this to the success that some foreign players are having in the league. They say a lot of white American players grow up and its constantly instilled in them that they are not as athletic as blacks. They go on to have collegiate success but often times are mere shooters in the league. I don't totally agree with this assessment, I'm just saying this has been said before. Players like Ginobili and Nash were 2 that I remember being mentioned.

I agree. And this fact doesn't strike you as a little weird?

If there was a great black/yellow/red/brown coach, do you really think they would be passed over for the color of their skin??? All teams want to WIN...you will do that with the best possible candidate. What I don't want to hear is that someone has to be hired because they are a minority. Now that is RACIST- and contrary to belief, racism comes in ALL colors.
