Why do you think that it won't ever make money?
LSU has a nice stadium that is packed when the product is good. TV deals also make money for the athletics department especially the CWS
Keeping a good coach increases fan pride which will indirectly boost revenue.
Also, isn't it Alleva's job to ensure ALL LSU sports are successful?
Oh I agree with what you're saying, but I meant revenue wise compared to what they spend.

I will say with softball and gymnastics, they both bring a lot of good publicity to this school and are well known nationally due to their success.
No doubt they will never add revenue like the football team but I think they do a lot more for LSU than what is shown.
From what I heard on this was Beth wanted more than the original 4% increase in salary and 2 year extension. Alleva said no. Auburn contacted her pretty quickly about the job. Beth has never had any intentions of leaving LSU. She has built this program to a new level. She is looking at her next 4 classes ranking into the top 10, 2 in the top 5. Beth let Alleva new Auburn was showing interest and that she would listen. Auburn was planning to pay Torina very very well, a bit more than what she has at the moment. Alleva had no choice to raise the extension and salary increase. If Alleva would let Beth leave, it would have been a major mistake.

She wasn't going to go to Auburn no matter what you all have heard or are thinking. She likes it here a lot and has a good thing going. Take that to the bank!

e could argue auburn has been better in softball the last few years
I thought the Tigers and Beth eliminated Auburn from the WCWS a couple years ago and eliminated Alabama and Georgia also the last couple years? I think that is pretty good.

Beth and her team bring so much positive marketing and publicity to the school. Every year the TV rating for softball far outpace the rating for NCAA baseball and LSU is right there on TV front and center. I think the money spent on the coaching staff is a good investment. You could never get that kind of publicity paying for adds and marketing for the same price.
