I've never been to the SEC Championship game in ATL--where do LSU folks stay near the Georgia Dome? Where do you hang out--Buckhead?

Thanks for the info--planning early this time!

3 places on 14th street; Marriott, Sheraton and Hilton (i think) gets you in the middle of all the maddness. 2 blocks from Marta and Jocks & Jills across from the Dome is a huge LSU spot. Construction on 14th street "should" be complete by then. The Hilton listed above may be a 4 Seasons. Marta is the best way to get to the dome and out w/o dealing w/ traffic issues. Also, should be a nice place to stay at the Atlantic Station developement. Lots of rest. and shopping if you have a misses in tow.

matter of preference... tons of downtown hotels, but not as many restaurants, etc.

We prefer to stay in Buckhead b/c there is more to do.. restaurants, shopping, bars... then just hop on the train to the game. Last few times we've stayed at the JW marriot in buckhead b/c it is attached to the big mall and it's right across the street from the train...also, free shuttle in buckhead area.

So many good hotels that you don't have to worry about booking early

Jocks and Jills is closed. Atlantic Station has been overrun with gangstas, the sports bar there changed owners a couple of months ago.

Any of the hotels right downtown are in easy walking distance to the action, use hotels.com and find a good deal unless you just want to stay in a 3 star.

Watch the Rant and other boards for notices of special events. The local chapter always has a throwdown the night before and other suggestions for local bars friendly to LSU fans. Check them out directly at www.LSUatlanta.com. They host FIVE local football view ins during the season and drew 700 to their bowl party for the Chikn Bowl.

Take a look at the Ellis Hotel. It is a 4 star boutique hotel in a very nice historic building that recently underwent a very expensive face-lift. If you book early you can probably catch a pretty nice deal. Also, its just a block from MARTA and only 1 stop from the Georgia Dome.

There is no place "near the dome."

Downtown has lots of hotels, but you really need to take MARTA from them to the Dome, & expect the streets to be empty when you get back if it's a night game.

I recommend staying in Buckhead, where there are actually people & things to do. The same train will get you to the Dome.

That is true most nights, but game nights are a bit different. I was on the north end of downtown and south end of midtown after the Bama-VT game a few weeks back and there were definitely people on the streets. Going as far South as GSU's campus isn't that great of an idea, but Midtown will have plenty of people and that is within walking distance. I'm not a big fan of Buckhead, but Tigah is right, it is a safe bet.
