Out of all the new defense coaches, gotta give props to Kevin Peoples. The edge rushers have been outstanding. Swinson is having an all SEC team year so far. Could be the scheme but they are attacking the QB. And the defense game by game is getting better.

how? They looked better against USCw than UCLA. UCLA broke too many big plays and they are a bad team.

We are attacking the QB a lot more. But we're easy to score on. Too easy.

And how many sacks and forced fumbles did we have last year? Not many because the running backs last year haven't stopped running yet like Forrest Gump. Blake is having to come up with schemes to offset young and less talented defensive lineman. That is the hand he was dealt and doing a good job. We don't have the players on the inside to attack. So they are probably told to jam the middle.

Help is on the way with recruiting more and better d-lineman. And the secondary is a lot better than last year. Sucks Perkins got hurt, but rewatching the game, I saw a lot of times he got juked out or was slow to the tackle.

I mentioned this to a coworker of mine when he said Swinson wasn't near as effective last year.

Defense hasn’t had a pass rusher worth a damn since Arden Key.

It’s been the most welcome change this season seeing an LSU defense actually attacking the opposing offense.

i don't think you know it, but LSU gave up 243 yards and 4 TDs at 5.9 ypc to SC. That's with 5 sacks added in. Against UCLA, LSU gave up 14 yards and 0 TDs at 0.46 ypc with 5 sacks added in. Before LSU, SC had 253 yards in 2 games with 3 TDs at 2.78 ypc. UCLA had 167 yards in 2 games with 1 TD at 3.63 ypc..The difference is that we didn't allow big runs. UCLA had a 17 yard run and 2 more 13 yard runs. That's it. Their 4th best run was a 9 yard run by a WR. Hell, remove the 51 negative yards (sack yardage) by the QB and you still only give up 65 yards at 2.9 ypc.

Let's say with a better offense, we limit them to 3 yards a carry. Do you know how significant that is?

I know you're in the moment, but tell me you didn't forget BJ Ojulari who had 11.5 TFL 7 sacks and 9 QB hurries in 2021 in 12 games, and 8.0 TFL, 5.0 sacks, and 13 QB hurries in 11 games in 2022?

Did you forget Harold Perkins with 14 TFL 8.5 sacks and 13 QB hurries in 2022? How about 13.0 TFL 5.5 sacks and 7 QB hurries in 2023?

i actually agree with this. We actually got an attacking style defense in 2021 when Ed O was fired midseason. If you don't believe me, vs the crappier SEC opponents, and first four SEC opponents, LSU had 4 sacks total. In the last 4 SEC games, LSU had 14 sacks. Every SEC game in that span, they had 3+ sacks. That LSU defense was ranked 24th in sacks that year.

You think Baker, his scheme and his coaching is part of them doing great as well?

Shut them down in the second half after the secondary guys quit busting coverages and played their assignments.

Yes I do. That is the way he coaches. It's more high risk but it's a lot better then last year.
