My list of the all time greatest Asst. Coaches By position...
QB coach...Mack Brown
OL coach...Stud
WR coach...Henry (based upon pedigree befor landing here)
OC...Jimbo Fisher
DC...the Chief Chavos (w/ Pellini as close second)
DL coach...Pete Jenkins ( he was incredible)
DB coach...Ron Cooper (Archer a close second)
LB coach...Cholly Mac ( as I recall he started w/ LBs and worked his arse off to earn DC and Head Coach job at LSU.

Pete Jenkins.
And his "off the record" updates at House of Lee were awesome.

Aside from longevity, has anyone done their job better than Cooper in modern team history?

QB coach...Mack Brown

QB-Mack Brown-Agree
OL-Stud-Hmmm
WR-Henry-joke of a comparison. Todd Monken produced some BEASTS while he was here, went to the league as an NFL WR Coach, & is now coordinating Okie State's O last year & this year.
OC-Jimbo/Mack Brown
DC-Chavis
DL-Pete Jenkins (but Haley is giving him a run)
DB-Cooper
LB-Cholly Mac/Chavis

Mack Brown came to mind at first

1982 season was such a surprise. It was his 1st and only year @ LSU and he signed Jeff Wickersham, Dalton Hilliard, Gary James. Too bad Stovall ran him off.

Would Chavis qualify?

Silly topic. There have been lots of good ones. Perhaps the brightest/most talented in recent memory is Muschamp. And that's why he is at UF now. He will have success there.

If we're talking overall career, not just what they've done at LSU,Chavis has to be in the conversation. If it's specific to LSU, it's Cholly Mac in a landslide.
