Do most Christians you know ascribe to some different sect wherein the old testament doesn't matter?
Lots of Christians cite the old testament when they rail against homosexuality. The ten commandments came from the old testament, are they to be ignored as well?
Hell, Christ himself said his followers had to follow the teachings of the old testament and of the old prophets. Are we to excise those bits of his teaching?
The point here is that Christians and muslims past and present have used bits of their holy books to make up for fricked up acts of cruelty. It's absurd to paint the extreme radical minority as the standard bearers for these religions.
