i like stringer off the bench when we have the tempo going and he can get some looks in transition. chattanooga left him open most of that game and he hit. i think he'll revert back to that role next game and either hickey returns to the starting 5 or collins gets the nod.

He is a much better than average shooter but only when he is open and set.
I don't know if I agree with that Tom. He's just never shown me enough consistency over the 2+ years here even when open and set for me to be able to accept that. There's been enough of a sample size since he's been here that IMHO I just can't say he's above average even in that context.
I don't have a shot chart of every shot he's taken in his career here but I've witnessed most of them. I'll give him average in that context but not above.
Ultimately, we'd have to have access to a wealth of statistical information we are just not privvy to in order to find a resolution to our disagreement.
My take in the end is that there are more games I've come away saying "Stringer had some good open looks but just didn't knock them down" more than "Stringer hit the open shots when he had them".

quote:You might be right. Like you say it is just my impression, I don't chart shots or anything. But our weakness this year is beginning to show. If JOB is out with foul trouble or they are triple teaming him and the other team is big enough and quick enough to neutralize Coleman, all we have left is the three point shot in a half court set. Who takes it? Against weaker opponents it looked like we had an endless supply of good shooters, now it seems we have none.

Carmouche shocked me with how many three pointers he was making at first but every game lately he was making fewer and fewer until last night he was 0-6. Hickey is the same type of shooter Stringer is, streaky, better if he is set and open. Morgan seems reluctant to shoot and only shoots two to four three pointers a game. Hammink can't get his own shot and we haven't been able to set him up with a clear shot and seems ineffective. We have Coleman playing underneath out of necessity most of the time.
If we don't get a lot of fast breaks, steals and layups this team is going to be in big trouble.

I think we all had a pretty good idea of what we were, but we let some early season games against not so good teams influence us because we wanted to believe we were better than we really were.
I think the initial outlook of most is most likely the correct one...that the NIT is the cieling for this years team and that's not guaranteed unless we all stay healthy and intact.
We've got 3 or 4 good players, no great players and a few that could become good players down the line or even better, but aren't there yet.
Now next year we get a couple of guys that are supposed to be good from jump. We'll see and we'll see what Johnny can do with them.
Dale with CJJ on the bench didn't always do his best work with the best talent.

Nect year we will be stacked. I honestly belive next year we are a tourney team. 3 years from now I think we will be a deep tourney team.

Man, nobody wants that more than me tgr4ever. But I'm not gonna expect it, I'm gonna have to see it. Been down the road of hope too many times with far too little in return.

I can see us having some struggles early on next season but obviously loaded with talent. Hell it may take till Hickey's senior season till we are looking at getting deep in the NCAA tourney. But I'm sure we will at least make it next year

Well, let's just see how good the kids coming in really are. Remember...Lester Earl, Magnum Rolle, and Regis Kounja...all 5-Star kids who really weren't. And let's see if JOB3 stays. He wanted to go last year and I think if he's projected even as a second-rounder he probably goes this year.
Too many uncertainties for me to spread in sunshine and rainbows about next year or beyond just yet.

I'd be surprised if JOBIII goes.

yea i think he goes whether that means nba draft or not. hickey could still move on as well (transfer closer to home near his kid). gonna be similar to last offseason with those two.

if johnny goes, deng deng will be the glue that hold our talented young frontcourt together.

I think CJJ will persuade Hickey and JOB3 to stay. I doubt they are going anywhere

I personally think JOB's stock rises next year after he gets help from players around him. Won't be as easy for teams to double down on him.

I didn't realize there was a concern with Hickey leaving though I guess it would be natural to speculate on how he is handling the recent discipline and his standing here.
I think JOB3 would definitely benefit from another year here, but kids and the folks in their ear don't always see that.

I don't think that's a concern anymore to be honest... he's shining under Jones in a major conference. He'll only get better
