balls were about half the weight but it couldnt have felt good..you could also pivot around and hit it behind the catcher..so the batter could use all the field.
The real equalizer for the fielders were you only had to get one out per inning.
Its similar to present day cricket and I think some leagues played first to 100, the game was called.
