don't always swing @ 1st pitch. has taken several 1st pitch for strikes getting behind in the count. Constant cat & mouse with how a pitcher/pitching coach, pitches to a player after watching films, etc, studying one's tendencies & weaknesses. Esp if the player can hit. The one i believe you are referring to is an aggresive hitter and never seen a pitch he didn't like.

....if you recall a guy named Alex Bregman who was on tear 1st part of last year jumping on 1st strike. Other coaches, staffs & players caught on to it and he never saw a 1st pitch Fastball strike again. Coaches/teams noticed his tendencies and adjusted. threw him sliders, change-ups & hooks that looked like a FB out of pitcher hand......and he struggled & then he started making adjustments. If a team or player becomes predictable at taking 1st pitch......we'd start every at bat behind in count and with top caliber pitching we face weekly, that have movement, ability to disguise pitches and hit spots with all their pitches....becoming predictable just isn't a good idea.

witnessed a coach yank a pitcher for failing to hit a player that was being obnoxious. It's part of the game. Jordan twins get pitched tight inside a lot if not thrown at.....
