If LSU becomes proficient on Defense and establishes a solid running game, we should be able to win with either of these QB's provided they are not put in positions (i.e. 2nd or 3rd and long situations) to make critical mistakes. LSU MUST BE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL TO HAVE SUCCESS and the defense MUST HAVE SUCCESS STOPPING TEAMS ON 3rd DOWNS. (See Bama last year)...

Because JJ and JL are no where close to to be the leader as McElroy was or near as consistent as McElroy.

They are their own worst enemies. I dont see any improvement from the QBs at all.

Because Lee or Jefferson arent as good as McElroy. As fans we need to stop lying to ourselves about Bama's QB and our own QB's. Their QB is on par with Flynn and Mauck, good enough to win on a good team. Lee and Jefferson im not sure could win on a great team.

Lee and Jefferson probably couldn't win the flag football league at LSU. True story...

Talent wise there isn't much difference. However, Mcelroy is a much better leader and actually took control of the offense. Not to mention, Saban's scheme does not allow the QB to frick up a game. Crowton's scheme is insane and causes more confusion then anything else.

to win with a guy like mcelroy, we need 2 things

1. dominant D that creates negative plays
2. a great running game

How about a team with a solid running game that puts you in 2nd and short instead of 3rd and long and the defense and special teams gives you great field position?

All I'm saying is you HAVE TO HAVE RUN SUPPORT to at least not put all the pressure on your QB to make plays...Truly great QB's are not a dime a dozen these days. And FWIW, I do agree with a lack of coaching on the QB development. For all the criticizing Jimbo took, he did work with QB;s very well.

Ya know, I'm tired of all this "leader" crap!!!!.....Who fricking knows if the Bama QB is a better "leader" than our 4th string QB????!!! The answer is nobody.....but what we do know is Bama had a killer D, could run the ball like a mofo and the QB connected on the majority of his play action passes. That kid did not have nearly the pressure our QB had... They go 3 and out, Satan didn't give a frick...punt that bitch and play defense and get it back in three plays...if LSU gets better in the trenches on both sides of the ball, we will see our QB play improve..peroid...all this leader crap is mindless rhetoric....

I agree, what I am saying is that both of these guys arent that good. Our OL has still yet to prove it can run the ball consistantly so who knows what we have. Yea, MF and SR are animals, but you cant run thru holes that dont exist.

Because we're not devoted to that kind of a system. We have an OC who wants to run 4-5 wide. I've said in other threads, we needa take a note from Saban/Bama and be a team predicated on running the ball and play action.

I agree, except I think Shep might be the X factor that Bama didn't have. If he can have a few explosive plays per game, we might not need to create as many negative plays on D as Bama or have to be able to pound the ball quite as well as they did either.

bama may not have had 1 homerun threat on its team, but it had a group of guys who could threaten here or there

jones (had a bad year, but had THE play vs. LSU)
ingram (heisman winner)
richardson (broke off some long runs)
maze was a good deep threat

i'm not comparing any of their explosive ability to shep, but bama had occasional HR threats

Because Saban is a much better coach then Miles. he actually coaches his players and not only rely on a players talent. that is why bana won and JJ and JL will never win a NC

You also have to realize that McElroy was 21 years old last season and was in his 4th year with the program. While Lee was a 19 year old Redshirt freshman in 08 and Jefferson was a 19 year old true sophmore in 09.

Those two extra years of learning a system and how to read defenses helps out a lot.

Lee and Jefferson were both very young and probably put into situations as starters before they were ready.

Also, a solid D and running game helps out.

because they have McElwain and we have Crowton...if Crowton ever figures out that JJ/JL will not prosper in the spread, we might have a chance.

With the improved D and a hopefully better running game, I think either would be effective in a system largely ran out of more pro-sets. Bring Shep in for the change of pace stuff.
