Hi guys

Very self-indulgent thread, with apologies.

I made mention of it the other thread dedicated to the discussion of seating location at Bryant-Denny Stadium. However, the long/short of it is, my buddy and I are coming to NOLA on 8 November for the Saints/Falcons game on the 10th.

With Bama/LSU scheduled for an afternoon rather than an evening start, we were wondering if it is a good idea to do a roundtrip to the stadium on the Saturday.

One consideration is transport - it looks like our only option is to drive? I have searched for train / bus routes but neither seems to be a possibility for anyone wanting to do a single-day roundtrip.

Secondly, how long would it take? I expect the game would probably finish up at about 6.30pm or so, so we potentially wouldn't make it back until 11.30pm?

The alternative is to find a bar in NOLA to watch the game (which we are also open to), although I appreciate the significance of the occasion and the fact we may be seeing one of the best LSU teams of all-time.

I'm leaning toward wanting to go but my buddy is of the "it's too far/too expensive" camp. Happy to take advice about why I am right or why I should listen to him.

We will be in Baton Rouge on 23 November for the Arkansas game already so will at the very least have an opportunity to experience Death Valley.

Cheers!

Public transportation is almost nonexistent for this scenario, here in the States. Traffic leaving Bryant Denny Stadium is absolutely awful. So after renting a car, you're looking at getting to NOLA after 01:00 realistically. Very doable. Just how bad you want it. Not the greatest venue for an LSU fan, but the game should be epic especially with the team knowing they are a 16 point underdog.

You’re looking at roughly a 6 hour one way drive, so you’d have to either leave on the 8th or very early on the 9th...then you have to allow time for traffic, parking, etc....

There are any number of good bars with much better food than you’ll find in Tuscaloosa ....stay in NOLA

About 5 hrs driving time Tuscaloosa to NO, coming I59 through Mississippi you can make really good time, it’s a straight shot with almost no exits, you could consider getting a room in Hattiesburg and driving in to NO Sunday am

Agreed, it’s a huge hassle. I personally will go to games if it’s convenient but I don’t think it’s worth it in this case.

Stay in New Orleans, you’ll have way more fun and spend way less time in a car. If the game was in Baton Rouge I’d say it’s a no brainer but TTown is a hike.

Loads of great LSU bars in NOLA where you can plenty rowdy and have a blast. Then you’re much better rested for the Saints the next day.

Just my opinion.

Cooter Brown's would be my recommendation if you decide to stay in New Orleans. Big sports bar with lots of LSU fans on gameday.

Thanks all for the responses. Maybe we will stay in NOLA then, or wait until we are in town on the Friday to make a final call, but there is probably something to be said for having a few beers with other LSU fans at Vic's, the Tchoup Yard, Walk-Ons, etc.

We had intended to drive out to Bryant-Denny en route to Nashville the following week anyway and thought we might do the stadium tour so we'd still get to check the place out.

I had an opportunity to check out the tickets on the View From My Seat website too and I must admit that the prospect of spending approx $800 (or $1200 if we take you up Gutsandbutts) to watch from an equivalent distance to the International Space Station is not all that enticing either.

Again, appreciate all the feedback!

With your itinerary and the logistics, unless you’re under the age of 30, I would go ahead and stay in New Orleans. You’ll find plenty of LSU friendly pubs to watch the game there. Then you can still be fresh for the Saints on Sunday.

If you’re under 30? frick it. GO FOR IT and have a great time.

Wrong iron is the new “hip” place to be... it’s got a lot of tv’s, it’s outdoors and I’d recommend getting anywhere early

We're both 32 although our mentality is usually in line with this. Our itinerary is really a 3.5 week trek following the Saints (home, Tampa Bay, home, Atlanta) with an assortment of sport and drinking and the occasional theme park already. If we do it, this roundtrip would be wedged between the Pelicans on Friday night and the Saints on Sunday.

We actually did a similar thing two years back and by the end of it I was an absolute shell of a person and that trip was only 2.5 weeks. I was so sick I couldn't talk for two weeks. So maybe a slightly more conservative approach (e.g. not travelling 10-hours on precious little sleep in an already loaded itinerary) wouldn't hurt this time...

This place looks cool, thank you. I sent the link to my travel buddy who owns a few bars in Australia. He loves these kinda places in particular because he is looking for inspiration to re-develop the back bar at one of his own places.

I’m not sure where I’ll end up but that’s definitely a fair dinkum possibility. I’ll keep an ear open for some screaming Strayan blokes having a capper though.

Enjoy the trip.
