Are some of our pitching issues due to umps squeezing us a little more than earlier in the year? Listen, I am not a big conspiracy theory guy, but in the last few games I have seen our hitters get more strike calls on questionable locations, and the same location be a ball for our pitchers. You know it affects our pitchers mentally when that happens. Tell me what you think? Homer glasses or have the umps heard enough chirping from the dugout and they are dishing out karma?

It’s going both ways. Just our pitchers other than Skenes often time don’t throw competitive pitches. A prime example of that is Crews’s two strikeouts.

Home plate last night, IMHO, was kinda shitty at key moments. I think he absolutely ruined Cooper. Overall I am seeing a smaller strike zone throughout. Not consistent on calls that the pitch before was a ball now a strike. Crews was absolutely hosed twice last night.

Overall I think the umping is weaker behind the plate than I've seen in a while.

You are an LSU fan and you will see the borderline pitches from our pitchers as strikes, and borderline pitchers for our hitters as balls. So no, LSU is not being unfairly squeezed.

NOW... The strike zone across the board has gotten incredibly tight all season long. It's hurt our pitching some, and it's helped and hurt out hitting some. When our hitters adjust to a tight zone, and then the ump misses one slightly off, it seems like we are getting screwed. It's been pretty even across the board. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

I highly doubt there is some conspiracy with the umpires purposefully fricking with the strike zone to hurt our pitchers and hitters.

That said, the umps behind the plate have been subpar, at best.

The strike zone has most certainly shrunk no doubt. It’s all because of Trackman and them getting graded. The umpire last night was not very consistent in my opinion. Knowing that though you have to protect the plate.

Negative. Both of crews last two Ks, he looked at balls WAYYYY too close to be watching with two strikes.

One of them was a clear 3rd strike

Crews two strikeouts are what got me thinking of this. Then the Cooper walk. But for Crews, hell you gotta at least try to hit some of those borderline pitches. Foul it off at least.

Just because he looked at close pitches doesn't let the ump off the hook. If you think the last pitch of his last SO was a strike I don't know what to tell you.

I agree. However on the first one with the bases loaded Crews took a 2-2 pitch that was the exact offspeed pitch he took 3-2 and one was called a ball and the next called a strike.

The umpire was one of the worse I've seen this year. That is speaking for both teams too, not just LSU getting the bad calls.

THIS. With runners in scoring position both times.

My whole point is that they were too close to watch with two strikes. If you leave it up to the ump there is a 50/50 shot you get screwed. On the flip side, Coopers ball 4 was too close to watch with two strikes. Both just didn't work in our favor.

I thought both the 2-2 and 3-2 pitch were strikes, not balls. Both shouldn't have been watched go by.

I agree with that. It just seemed like last night the ump was more than ready to ring him up. But yes, a ball that is that close needs to be offered at.

I don’t think so. The SEC umps have kind of sucked all year. They suck both ways though.

Plus a lot of the time when our bull pen misses they miss big.
