so...are we getting nervous about this or what?
Some people saying he's on the road recruiting and its simply logistical and he'll sign when he returns to BR. He also might be out on the road negotiating with Texas so who knows.

Michigan State was basically a .500 team for the first 4 of Saban's years as a DC at MSU. Meyer was never even an OC before being named a HC at BGSU nor was Harbaugh who only had 2 years as a QB coach in the NFL before getting a college HC job. I think he used to moonlight for his dad. I venture to say that none of their resume's as assistants can touch what Aranda has accomplished the last 5 years.

you're missing my point. Of course new head coaches may not have much of a resume when they get their first gig.

My point was that the 3 top coaches in college today all started at small schools, and then moved up. There would be a big risk if Aranda's first HC job was LSU.

Almost every hire comes with some risk - even coaches with previous HC experience. I know for a fact that the Miami Dolphins regret hiring Nick Saban. Sometimes you need to take a chance.

of course, but coaches with a proven track record are far less of a risk. I would think that's patently obvious.

And Saban's NFL experience is irrelevant. NFL and college ball are completely different games.

Love the guy as a coordinator but does he strike anyone else as kind of a weird dude?

this is why i was against him being head coach - maybe he'll get there but so far he seems to have the personality of a dish rag. not a dynamic head coach personality type.

and no head coaches aren't all weird guys. the lengths people will go to to prop Aranda up as the next Saban are amazing. He might get there but he ain't there yet. We might have him for several more years

I can name a whole bunch of coaches whose proven track record of success or mediocrity didn't carry over. I'm sure that people predicted success for Texas based on Charlie Strong's 23-3 record in his last 2 years at Louisville.

Mark Dantonio was an unremarkable 18-17 at his first gig in Cincinnati. Pete Carroll took over 2 NFL franchises and ended up with worse records than the coach he replaced. Les Miles wasn't much more than mediocre (28-21) in 4 years at Oklahoma State......but that was more impressive than Jimmy Johnson was there (29-25-3) or Dennis Erickson was (18-16-1) in 2 Division I stops before he was given the keys to the Miami Ferrari.

Would you be happy if Aranda had Bob Stoops like success? Chris Petersen? Dabo Swinney? David Shaw? Jimbo Fisher? Gary Patterson? These are all coaches with sustained success in the first HC jobs.

I don't know about weird but he looks EXACTLY like Robbie Lawler and that in it's own is pretty damn intimidating.

Alleva is starting to remind me of the athletic director from Unnecessary Roughness. Whatever he could do to screw up the football program

No such thing as out on the road. Pull the page up on your Laptop that you need to sign and sign it, scan it and send it back. Either you going to sign it or not stop the BS!!

I agree personality is part of being a HC; that is because being a HC is to a large degree managing other people (such as the assistants under you).

But most people who play for or work with Aranda have comments like 'excellent communicator', 'consumate educator', and 'very brainy'. These, especially the communicator comments, are anything but dish rag worthy. Weird- maybe/likely, but underwhelming and bland- no.

Different than your average coach, especially defensive- definitely.
