I was thinking about it, I bet it's payback for blowing up Ole Miss' playoff run. Might not have been against any official rules, but it pissed off the rest of the SEC.

Watching the game, I don't think Jones is the most talented back. But he's the one most willing to do what Kiffin wants, which is to take the sure yardage and keep things on schedule. No juking, just running through arm tackles to get the 4-6 yds the play is designed to make. Berry and Durham are still used to trying to make a highlight play, which isn't what this scheme wants

This could also be a side effect of running the stretch though as opposed to getting straight down field.

I think Jones is really good but do have some thoughts that a quicker back may be beneficial against some tougher defenses

I'm not talking bad about any of these guys, it's a matter of understanding the role in this offense.

Dilin Jones is basically Jacob Hester. Not the fastest, not the shiftiest. But if the ball is on the 30, he has an appointment to be on the 35, and God help the defender between him and that spot. That keeps the offense on track. You don't need a spectacular reverse of field, 3 cuts, a spin and a 70 yd score. It would be nice if you get that, but it would be bad if you get tackled for no gain. And that's the more likely event in major college; we saw Clemson bring down Durham and Berry a couple times. They didn't hammer the hole as it was drawn up, they tried to shift some and get a step on somebody for a bigger play... and lost that encounter.
