How would Kelly announcing Daniels as starter now make Nuss more likely to transfer than if he does so on game day?

If it wasn’t known until a week or so before the season started, I’m sure in his mind he still has a shot this season. Which rightfully he should. Week 1 starter doesn’t guarantee anything for the season.

The same reason Brennan made a move...why not wait till game day...
Because of Nuss can't beat him out, Daniels will play this year and probably next, leaving Howard to take over and Nuss getting hosed. So yeah, more chance he would leave before classes started...duh
