Until Floyd shows that he can throw a 2nd pitch he will never be more than a spot middle reliever in the SEC. We have seen the same from him for 2 years. You cannot just go out there and continually throw nothing but straight fastballs in the SEC.

Exactly. Right now Ty Floyd has the same problem he had last season. He’s a one-trick pony. And he’s got good placement on his fastball but not much movement.

He’s not an SEC starter at this point, not even a Sunday one.

I was saying this when he came in last weekend. Although he did throw a few changeups and mixed a slider of some sort in as well a couple of times. Idk if the staff just doesn't call much offspeed with him or what but he did throw a few for strikes. I agree he will get rocked come SEC play with fastballs 80% of the time

Lance Lynn was a fine SEC starter and remains a fine MLB starter. He throws a fastball about 83% of the time: LINK

That may sound like the right idea but he’s been very productive with only one pitch in the sec. Had a 3.77 ERA last year. Does he need to develop a 2nd and 3rd pitch? Yes but he has shown his fastball is good enough that he can still be around an average pitcher with only a fastball. If he wants to be a true ace, he will need multiple more pitches though

Has electric stuff, and I think he will grow into the role...we need him to develop to go as far as we want to go

And until he does, he should only work through the lineup once.

BTW, that's no disrespect to Ty.Most teams would kill to have someone like him in relief role. Plus it lets him work on his other pitches w/o going to bullpen early

For one Ty Floyd isn't throwing a cutter like Lynn and Lynn's 4 seamer is only thrown less than 50% of the time. He also has
3 other pitches to lean on.
