I mean, that's the entire point of recruiting services. To measure and assign a numerical value representing raw talent and potential.
I would argue the point of recruiting services is more about making money and generating fan interest than anything else.
You're taking ratings done back in 2013 and 2014 by some guy working for 247 and acting like that means something. It means very, very little. In any information system, garbage in = garbage out. You seem smart enough to understand that.

The point is that LSU has, on paper, recruited better than Clemson over the years.
Setting aside my skepticism over dated recruiting rankings... We've never signed a QB like Lawrence. He was the #1 prospect in the nation at any position. In the 2018 class, Clemson signed a 5-star QB, WR, and OT. Our only 5-star was a hobbled Terrace Marshall. 4-star WR Chase is the bright spot. Going back another year, Tee Higgins was the #2 WR in 2017, and we failed to sign a top 30 WR. We signed no RB's and a thin-framed QB in Brennan. In 2016 we signed the #2 class in the nation, but guess what? Our top 6 rated prospects were all defensive players. The only notable offensive signees were WR's Sullivan, Davis, and Anderson and TE Pettigrew.

Development and execution has been a chronic problem at LSU, particularly on offense. None of that is changing under Ensminger.
That remains to be seen. If you think 2018 LSU and 2018 Clemson had similar offensive talent, I don't know what to tell you. Our only real high-end NFL prospect is possibly Chase. Clemson littered the field with them. Last year, when Clemson wasn't as talented, their scheme didn't look so good vs. Bama did it?

Was there ever a better argument against max protect? If we ever run that crap again everyone should be fired. Add receivers, throw the ball quick. Don’t be p*ssies. Attack the defense.

Agree with all of your points

The only major difference I see in talent is at QB. Lawrence is significantly better than any QB LSU has had in the past 10 years.
But elsewhere? We've already discussed the offensive line. On paper coming out of high school there aren't a lot of differences. Yet Clemson's offensive line is stout while LSU's is continually dysfunctional.
WR talent, again, on paper, is pretty even. Marshall and Chase were higher rated WRs coming out of high school than Justyn Ross, yet Ross was dunking and balling on Alabama's DBs last night while ours apparently can't handle an audible at the line of scrimmage.
Etienne and Feaster were obviously better than what we've had at RB this year, but not in previous years. And Davis and Emery will be just as good if not better in the years ahead.
So no, other than QB, I don't see a massive difference in raw talent. I do see a massive difference in game planning, coaching, and execution.

It's not rocket science
correct

All OC's use combo routes
How many combo routes did you see attacking the seam/middle of the field for LSU? LSU combo's are along the sideline.

They're on their heels because of the whole portfolio of play calls and looks that Clemson was showing them.
So, like many people, you don’t actually know why it worked. The plays worked so it was ‘scheme’. If they hadn’t, it would have been ‘ poor play calling’.
Bottom line this is a game of blocking, tackling, throwing, and catching. Many ‘schemes ‘ work just fine.
Against Bama we couldn’t do jack because there was no time - even for quick passes.
Would I have loved to see us try spreading vs max protect? Absolutely.
But that ain’t why Clemson beat Bama.
