dont do it. I got on the train in slidell and I was 5 hours late getting into Tuscaloosa. I was 9 hours late coming home. its not if you will be late but how late will you be. aside from that it is an awesome ride with friends

This 100%. Took Amtrak from NOLA to Birmingham last December. Supposedly a 7 hour trip. On the way there: 1.5 hours late departure, 1.5 hours of random stopping due to freight traffic. 10 hours total. On the way back, departed THREE HOURS late, 2.5 hours of stopping. 11.5 hours total. The schedule is completely unpredictable. As long as time doesn’t matter it’s fine I guess.
