7.5 wins is a reasonable O/U.
FSU has been stuck in purgatory trying to get their program back to "glory". There are many questions that have to be answered with a completely new coaching staff. But FSU...in the Superdome isn't an insurmountable task.
LSU's home (SEC) games are Tennessee, Mississippi St, Ole Miss and Alabama. Could they lose to any or all of those teams? Sure. But even though it may be somewhat down for LSU's standards, is there anyone on that list besides Alabama that definitively has MORE talent than LSU? I don't think so.
LSU's road (SEC) games are Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, A&M. The "even" years are always tougher for LSU because of the road slate. But then you look at Auburn. They had more turmoil than any SEC team this offseason. Who is their QB? Florida and LSU seem to mirror each other. Talented underachievers last season with new coaching staffs. The game is in Gainesville. Which is tough. But LSU has won 4 of the last 6 meetings there. So is a road win really that crazy? Arkansas snuck up on everyone last season. They won't be taken likely this season. LSU hasn't always played well in Arkansas. But I don't think Arkansas is so good that a much better coached LSU team could not beat them. A&M is A&M. Jimbo is going to have a world of pressure on him. Maybe this is his most talented team. But I've also seen his team lose and struggle to beat the two worst LSU teams in 20 years
From the outside looking it there is reason to be down on LSU. But those guys probably don't understand just how terribly coached the last 2 LSU teams were. The problem in 20 and 21 wasn't so much that LSU lost a ton of talent from 19. It's that after '19, for the first time in his LSU tenure, the worst coach in Ole Miss history fully injected himself in the on-field approach, as opposed to just being the clapping buffoon watching the talented coaches run their respective sides of the ball. The results were inevitable. The less Orgeron is involved with the actual game play, the better. He was almost completely uninvolved in 17-19, and we saw the results. In 20 he decided to show the world just how great of a tactician he was...and he did.
