Has the LSU running back position historically been the most consistently excellent position of the entire football program?
DB has still been better. Running back may be deeper across the board since 2000, but since 2000, we've had 8 AAs at DB and just 1 at RB. If you wanna go back to 1970, we've had 11 AAs at DB and 3* AAs at RB (Faulk was an AA as a all-purpose player in 1996).

People sometimes forget that Josh Reed was a RB his first couple of seasons
he only played RB his first season in 1999.

Hey dukke, do you remember Terry Robiskie?
First LSU running back to rush for 1000 yards and first to go over 2500 yards in a career. 1973 to 1976.

I believe since 1995 we have had a back on our roster that went on to start a game in the league as a RB. Pretty impressive.

Toefield will always be my #1

I don't know that I'd considered them starters.
Neither played their full career with a guy on the team getting the lion's share of the carries. They were both heavily involved in the rotation even with a guy in front of them on the depth chart. Each had a few big moments for LSU, but neither is amongst the elite runners in our program.

Though neither were able to break through, Kendall Cleveland and Robert Toomer did have some talent.

And just before Charles Alexander there was Terry Robiskie from 2nd ward. He was a pretty big signing and 7th on the LSU career rushing list and the first back to top 200 yds in a game.

It's crazy to me that Hill's dominant 2013 season of 1400 yards at 6.8 ypc has been completely overshadowed by LF7 and DG5. Having those three RBs consecutively is the best string of backs in school history. This is just since 2010:
Ridley - NFL
Ware - NFL
Blue - NFL
Ford - NFL
Hilliard - NFL
Magee - NFL
Hill - NFL
LF7 - NFL
Guice
