Football used to teach people life lessons. Today those lessons are..“Get dat money mane, cuz it’s a business decision”

If the money is good enough you sell out your team.

It’s a microcosm of everything that is wrong with today’s society. It’s why mental health, depression, and suicide is at an all time high despite being the most prosperous we have ever been. Why opioid addiction is taking over. Everyone is chasing that money mane. Then when they get it they wonder why they still aren’t happy. No one has any principles or values.

Do you know how I know all of this? Because so many people on here are applauding his decision. You would do the same, you would teach your kids the same.... it’s all about the money

This “business decision” mentality is infectious in college football and has downsides. Players leaving early, never graduating, and ending up undrafted or cut. Do y’all give a shite about them?

He’s gambling with $20 million?

What are his chances of walking away with zero dollars?

You lost me here...

Don’t think many are applauding his decision, just saying they understand that the CFP and NCAA have created the environment for this decision to be normal for projected 1st rounders.

Why are you so insecure?

ONOZ! If a high school kid sees someone talking about values and principles they won’t want to play football at LSU! Shhhhhhhh

The reason all these kids are primadonas is because everyone babies them and tells them it’s all about them

bullshite...what is his word and his honor worth.....???

To this generation, those things are worth nothing...EVERYTHING is expendable. It is just like the OP said...and the reason what he is forsaking his word for (the almighty dollar) will fail to bring him happiness..

His word to who? His coaches? Teammates? Any of them complaining about his decision? Any of them footing the bill if he suffers a catastrophic injury?

Did he not give his word to his daughter?

His obligations are first and foremost to his family.

This post is screaming “GET OFF MY LAWN”

While I’m also not a fan of entitled kids of today, y’all are acting like players 40 years ago faced this same dilemma

No because it’s not about the team anymore. It’s about everyone business decisions.

College football used to be great because it was different than the NFL. It’s not much different anymore. Strictly business.

not high. A career ending injury is not likely, at all. That's what it would take for him to walk away with nothing.

Maybe if these "student athletes" put half as much effort into their free education as they do into a dream that can end in a second, they wouldn't be so worried about making enough money to last entire lives before they reach the age of 25. They would have that degree to fall back on and be able to provide for their families until they reach retirement age like everyone else.

Yes, absolutely. Go look up what a top 10 draft pick’s contract looks like versus someone drafted in the 2nd round. Report back...

Of course. At the same time they have much more to gain. It's a risk/reward situation. You are looking at it from an emotional stand point. The people saying take the money are looking at it from a logical standpoint.

Why go back 40 years?

Contracts are actually less than they were 10 years ago. You don’t think players made millions in the 1990s and 2000s? Why weren’t players sitting out then?

Jaylon Smith was headed to be a possible top-5 draft pick when in his final college game, he was pushed from behind and awkwardly twisted and bent his knee.

The injury was brutal: his ACL and LCL were torn, and he had nerve damage. He ended up being drafted in the second round by the Cowboys — but likely, even with an insurance policy, lost a large amount of money and was placed on injured reserved by the Cowboys this week. Should he have gone in the top five, as projected by some draft experts, his contract would be in the $20 million range. Instead, he got $4.42 million guaranteed.

I don’t have to look anything up. A first round pick and a second round pick both risk life changing money.

So they risk is the same thing. shite you could say that about most players drafted. It could be a life changing moment.

It’s like arguing about who has it better the guy who hit the powerball for 500 million or the guy who hit it for 700 million
