LSU needs to live up to their billing as one of the top offensive lines in the country. The running game needs to SHOW UP and SHOW OUT. If they do that, Nuss will light Ole Miss up.

Hopefully Stamps will turn his head and look for the ball. He typically is in position to make a decent play or to make an interception but he rarely looks for the ball.

Which is perplexing because he was making plays on the ball all camp for some reason ability to play the ball in rhe air jus hasn’t consistently translated to gamedays for him. Hopefully it starts happening Saturday because he will have chances to make plays on the ball

I'm seeing this all over college football. Do they not teach to turn around and look for the ball anymore?

“Face guarding” isn’t a penalty in high school football anymore, so that’s part of it. In the past, high school DBs had to turn their heads because obstructing the WRs view without trying to make a play on the ball (“face guarding”) was pass interference. Now it’s not pass interference unless there’s contact.

The other thing is that passing offenses are just more efficient/effective than they were in the past. Offenses today put a lot more pressure on DBs than they did 15-20 years ago. Some of this is scheme, some is tempo, some is due to rule changes.. but the end result is that DBs are probably getting beat more often. It’s a lot harder to play the ball when you’re already a step or two behind.

A lot of teams seem to teach their corners to play through the hands of the wr instead of the ball. It’s a relatively saver coverage attempt then playing the ball because if you do play through the hands and give up a catch your at least their to make a tackle and prevent YAC. However , playing the ball can cause more turnovers but it can also backfire badly if you miss play the ball.

The GA corner vs bama when Ryan Williams and that go ahead TD score is a perfect example. He misplayed the ball and it led to him being unable to bring down Williams after giving up the catch leading to a 70 yard td but if he played through his hands he may still have given up the catch but he prob makes the tackle after and prevents YAC.
