He had one suspension for drugs, and probationary period I am sure. He continued to fail drug tests and persisted in smoking pot. He has an issue with not smoking. God bless and help him to overcome this inability to control his behavior. He is an amazing player.

I have a real problem with your statement about him being one of our "best representatives" of the university.. There are probably at least 60 or 70 better "representatives" of the university, that haven't failed drug tests..

I like TM7, who doesn't, but this is spot on.

Atleast you shouldn't even thou alot of coaches do it all the time. I for one am proud of Les Miles and the LSU administration for sticking to the rules.

and for the author of this thread. The thing is everyone is speculating that was for weed. But the fact is we really don't know exactly what rules he broke. Just let it go dude Mathieu is gone and LSU will be fine. As great of player as he is, he was a average DB with just incredible football instincts. But do you think he would do the same in a different system? No disrespect to him, but in alot of ways he was a product of the talent around him and Chief putting him in spots where he could free lance. If he played in a more structured scheme where he had to just play his position I don't think he would have been the super star he was.

If he really wanted to contribute to the team he would have straightened up after the Auburn suspension

An earlier post made me think of something. I have always been proud when I read the comments of other posters talking about LSU doing things the right way. With that said I have a pop quiz. ------ accusations of acedemic misconduct, players going out and getting in fights, multiple players using drugs and recruiting questionable character. Did I just describe Oklahoma of old, Miami of old, FSU of old or LSU ?

Yeah don't let anyone ever tell you that your stupid

Yes he was kicked out of school. He broke university and team rules. As Joe Alleva said this has been a on going thing, not something that just came up.

pretty much spot on. I also think its dumb that ppll are defending him with, oh he came from a rough neighborhood and background. The guy is a fricking adult he knows what the rules were and he knows right from wrong.

Alternative/intuitive suspension for Mathieu
To the original post. Not kicking him off the team and giving him another chance has been tried already and it still hasn't worked. What make you think one more chance would make the difference? How many times does he have to fail before YOU say enough is enough?

I agree with this. I can't understand people feeling sorry for him. He knew the consequences and still made the choice. I love him as a player but I'm pissed he put his team in this position.
Like the bad arse recruit we didn't get, I've been trying to convince myself he wasn't that good that we won't miss him. Then reality says that's bullshite cause he may be the most dynamic player in cfb.

They gave him every support system possible. He chose not to take advantage of the opportunities.Unfortunately, there will always be another Janzen Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu who refuse to follow the rules and take advantage of a second chance to succeed.

I can definitely see it from your point of view, and I'm really conflicted. It's just that, way before the batman quote, I have always felt that rigid rules like this take away from the compassionate human element of dealing with issues such as this. But then again, maybe TM WAS treated with a ton of compassion and understanding and he ignored it. Who knows.

So you're saying you don't have a clue what happened or why? yet you contend that there needs to be more compassion by large institutions? You'd be the first one in line complaining there isn't equal treatment if someone got a special deal. Please stop with the liberal

Pretty sure this isn't true. Someone, I believe I heard it on Moscona's show, quoted Alleva as saying that his scholarship was revoked, but he could remain enrolled if he paid tuition. He went on to say that he expected Mathieu to transfer.

To quote The Dark Knight Rises, "institutions often become our shackles." Rigid rules often preclude compassion and the human element of these types of situations.

yea, let's eliminate institutions and their rules and see where that gets us. i say anarchy. look at countries today that are failing and check out their institutions; government, social, business, etc. the quote from a movie you used is pie in the sky hollywoodish. reality is a different ball game.
