I just want to see a damn strong hire. Shock and awe. Make a real commitment.

I'm moderately surprised we haven't hired someone yet. I thought today might be the day.
I assumed that Alleva would attempt to make a splash and see who we could possibly swing this late in the recruiting cycle. If we landed one or two recruits, excluding Morgan, we could be a top 4 team in the SEC next year.
They had to know this last weekend.
I just hope they don't buckle and hire Johnny Jones. I'd prefer to sacrifice this recruiting class entirely.

Who were we going to land. Not a single player was even on our radar outside of Coleman, who hasn't signed to my knowledge, and Gathers, who is waiting as well.
Morgan is in.
So getting a coach just for the sake of a day or two of recruiting wouldn't make much sense from my perspective because that's what leads to knee jerk quick JOhnny Jones hires, who we still may very well end up with.

Maybe it is leaked that the meeting didn't occur because Dixon said no and doesn't want to seem interested? But why have a face to face?
Too many questions and nobody knows.

I'm almost certain they knew last Thursday or Friday.. And I wouldn't be surprised if they knew the day after we lost to Oregon

This doesn't make any sense.

If you make a big-time hire, who knows who would have been on our radar.
I'd strongly prefer the right hire, but I've seen too many hasty coaching searches because of signing days. It has to the one of the top reasons bad hires are made.

That's true about the kids that haven't signed but coaches usually take a few kids with then whenever they get a new gig

Who would have honestly believed that TCU would be so kind as to take TJ and pay us a million bucks for it?
Posted on 4/11/12 at 11:32 pm to Tiger Authority
I see what you're saying but they might've been pressuring Johnson to find a new job without firing him..
I think it would've sent a message to current players and recruits that lsu was an unstable program. Don't think we needed anymore negative press the way we've been playing

Did any rational person believe that a school like TCU would come in, offer this guy a long-term deal worth a hefty sum of money, and then pay us the buyout when it was almost inevitable next year was his last?
Come on. And you're talking about preparing for that since the Oregon loss? Dude.

Alleva discusses interview with Jones, disputes Dixon candidacy, says Amaker not interested
Posted on April 11, 2012 by Scott Rabalais
LSU athletic director Joe Alleva on Wednesday night confirmed that he interviewed North Texas coach and former LSU player and assistant Johnny Jones on Tuesday.
Alleva also disputed reports that say he has spoken to Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon about the LSU vacancy.
Alleva went on to say that Harvard coach Tommy Amaker, who was a player and assistant coach at Duke when Alleva worked there, is not interested in succeeding Trent Johnson at LSU.
Alleva called Jones “a great candidate and a great interview,” but denied internet reports that said he spoke to Dixon in Atlanta on Wednesday. A reporter covering Pittsburgh basketball for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette tweeted that Dixon declined comment on the LSU job and was attending a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game Wednesday night.
Alleva called Amaker a friend and said he spoke to him three times, but “He’s happy where he’s at.”

Jones and Amaker. Good god nobody wants this job.

Haha I agree, not that they were prepared for it.. But more so that it was understood both wanted to part ways mutually. It just took the right fools to help us both move on

So what did he go to Atlanta for? And it sounds like Alleva isn't trying to trick anyone, or is he?
