LSU's tradition of night games is one that gives us a huge advantage over opponents. Something that all 13 other member institutions don't want to afford us. It's also a tradition that goes against a current and long-standing contract that the SEC has with CBS.
How is CBS suddenly all honky dory with giving ESPN a potential top 10 matchup that could feature 1 or 2 teams in the national championship picture the last weekend of the season>?

Again, in what way are we being so royally screwed by playing along with A&M's little tradition?
The deal should have been:
Games in College Station - Thursday Night
Games in Baton Rouge - Saturday Night
I would have been happy with that.
Alleva was taken for a sucker if he thinks he got a good deal with this bye because A&M has the same fricking bye.

I wasn't in any meeting about it, nor am I privy to the details. I'm certain some kind of deal was worked out.
My point is that, Alleva can't just go to the SEC and DEMAND that we have nothing but night home games. There are too many hurdles in place to just magically grant us our wish, especially considering NO ONE in the SEC wants to play us at night in Tiger Stadium.

OK, because he didn't propose what YOU wanted (you don't even know if he did or not), WE got screwed? Got it.
Alleva did his job. He has for us the best and most manageable schedule possible in terms of bye weeks.

Would you have not been happy with that deal?
He got us one bye week for one year! And I think we would have gotten that bye regardless. It doesn't give us any advantage over A&M or Bama overall.
A&M will keep their tradition of Thanksgiving Day games and we get a bye for one year.

No one is saying we should play EVERY home game at night. LSU averages 4 SEC home games a year. A deal could certainly be put forth that says we are guaranteed two SEC night games each year.

All we know is we play aTm on Thanksgiving day and WON'T play on Thanksgiving day in Tiger Stadium in 2015. The SEC will try to have a completely re-worked schedule system in place starting in 2016.
We know that we play a Night game at Kyle Field in 2014. We know that unless some drastic effort is made by Alleva before the 2015 season that CBS will force us to play a Day game of Friday in Death Valley.

I'm sure that's gonna happen.

A couple of things to note.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but LSU still gets more night games than any other team. Last I heard they did.
As far as bye weeks, the sec does not schedule them, your teams do, the sec now approves them and will tweak them with the schedule to fit the new "rule".
As far as thanksgiving, the sec only slates which week a game is played, the actual day is negotiated between the schools.
The Friday game is a contract between the schools, the schools ask for that game or CBS offers it to them and they agree.
The sec does have a guaranteed Black Friday game, but only every other year. It just happened to have been that schools recently have signed multi year contracts to play ever year. The previous contract with LSU and arky expired last year. So this still leaves y'all's home portion of the series with a&m as possible to still be on Saturday.

What the does this have to do with anything. You will have to better explain what you mean to be able to understand the relevance.
It still boils down to Night games at A&M and Day games at LSU.
PS is that Clint Howard in your sig pic?

The talk of the sec taking your tradition of playing at night away. If LSU plays more night games than anyone else, wouldn't you assume there is an effort to provide more games at night for LSU? All teams want to play a t nigh.

I voted to allow others on our board, as long as they were respectful.

LSU may not have a home SEC night game this year.

quote:Agree with all that, and I'm not normally one to bitch about schedules and such, but SEC NIGHT GAME defines the tradition at LSU and it's sad that we are slowly losing that tradition for the sake of the almighty dollar, CBS. and TV. It appears that Alleva is not fighting hard for that right, he may be behind the scenes, but publicly it sure doesn't look like it.

You don't know this yet and so far history says otherwise.
Look at it this way, playing the CBS 330est game means you are the top game of the day. You are what they predict to be the best game of the entire day of college football.
With the new espn contract, it also provides the sec with the opportunity to have more televised night games.
Unfortunately it's not even really an sec decision, as its in their contract with CBS. That CBS gets first dibs on the Saturday game for their 330 time slot. This is where your gripe with your ad should begin. Although you are one of fourteen now, the next contract negotiation with the sec and CBS, should raise these issues, if there has been a shown problem. However, if what I was told is correct(LSU plays more night games than anyone else) then I don't see an issue.
There is no need for preemptive bitching about a possibility when history says otherwise.
One week and a few days to go. Y'all are playing in Dallas, correct?

Exactly right.
Alleva did nothing here to be proud of.
Again, LSU gets the shitty deal from the SEC office.

I'm still expecting and hoping to play Auburn at night. That game seems like a likely candidate for ESPN's primetime slot.

Would be awesome, I am still thinking about coming. We were planing on bringing some friends but they have to go to a wedding. I hope I can make it.
Hope our team has something.
