If LSU determines the Yahoo report is serious enough to think a violation "might have occurred" (especially since WW refused to address the issue), then LSU self reports to the NCAA.
This is the issue. What kind of precedent does this set?
"Trevor Matich reports he has pictures of Ed Orgeron paying Joe Burrow $100,000 out of his own pocket to come to LSU."
Welp guess its time to suspend Coach O and call our buddy Mark BEFORE ANY REAL FACTS COME OUT.
I still cant believe this is all over a fricking Yahoo article
fricking joke

Just wanting to post here the lsufball19's posts for these last 18 days, now, have been seemingly spot-on. Thank you.
I'll second that.
Nice job 19. I've come close to posting something similar many times over the past few weeks.
Your contributions are very much appreciated.

suspended Wade and continue to suspend him that we may avoid LOIC if the hammer inevitably drops. But IMO, if the hammer drops and all the suspicions are substantiated with proof, we're fricked all the same and will 100% get LOIC regardless
then they should just fire him if that is what they are thinking.
I cant understand the strategy of this idiotic suspension.
Either fire him or let him coach, its impossible to have a grey area.
What is the suspension doing in the admins eyes at a strategic move?

and the fact that Smart is playing makes the suspension even more idiotic.

and this is the million dollar question right now. It makes no sense to me either, and in my conversations with other non-LSU fans they also think it's illogical.

This is what leads me to believe that the NCAA wants something from Wade concerning the case. If Smart is cleared and the only roadblock is the meeting, why els would the NCAA demand to be present? Wade can still be in violation of offering improper benefits to Smart even if Smart didn’t take them and the NCAA doesn’t need to be present just for that simple distinction. They seem to want info on something els that Wade isn’t allowed to provide.

Only problem is the NCAA wasn’t requesting to be present, they were invited. It’s like the LSU admin is wanting hand over Wade on a silver platter. I agree that Wade can commit a violation simply by making or negotiating offers, but that’s nearly impossible to prove without the smoking gun of payments or the other side (Smart) admitting offers were made.

Given this all happened in 2017 and LSU waited until 2019 to act on it, they'd still be looking at an LOIC if the facts ultimately reveal the worst about Wade's recruiting. So what exactly does LSU have to gain by suspending Wade right now? The answer is nothing.
You are assuming LSU knew back in 2017 everything they know now. If LSU has been proactive based on what they know, the NCAA may have a reason to lighten up on LSU. Since you and I don't know everything LSU (and the NCAA) REALLY KNOW, we are left with the hope that LSU knows what they are doing. Some choose not to sit back and wait, and then criticize the suspension (mostly because they want WW to coach the tournament NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS).
quote:
The NCAA has made it clear what they know and what they don't. Mark Emmert has made plenty of statements on the topic. They know no more than we do because the FBI's files have not been released to anyone at this time.
I would not be so sure about what they know (and what they don't know). Of course, the NCAA wants the FBI files (and they will certainly get them). Don't be fooled into thinking the FBI files will ONLY inform the NCAA. These FBI files will probably also CONFIRM things they already know (LSU as well).
Question: Do you really think we know EVERYTHING that LSU and the NCAA know at this point? Be honest. And, if they know more, what do they know? I'm not saying WW is guilty. But I would not form a solid opinion about what LSU has done based ONLY on what WE know.

No I'm not. I'm saying what happened in 2017 provided a reasonable basis of looking into Wade's interactions with Dawkins and conducting an internal investigation. They didn't.

What makes you think they know any more than we do? The FBI has not released anything to the NCAA. Will Wade has not spoken to LSU or the NCAA. The only people with the information that we don't have is the feds, defense counsel, and the parties to the case.

That's not what's going on

It really doesn't matter to me if he's guilty or not

Quotes from Mark Emmert
quote:
“The timeline is up to the federal government and their investigation,” Emmert said. “We’re mostly in the mode of watching right now and collecting information as it’s appropriate and as they give us permission to, but it’s going to take a long time.”
quote:
“We just get access to what has come out in the trials and the deliberations and we’ll be using that as thoroughly as we can,” Emmert said of the FBI information.
quote:
“We were incredibly attentive to all of it and we had people every day at the trial,” Emmert said. “I was following the transcript on a daily basis. I don’t need to be in the room to know what’s going on in the trial and we were very, very attentive to it.
quote:
"We're constantly look for and trying to root out this information, but the power of a federal investigatory team is something that someone who's not in a governmental position can't begin to have. So, the NCAA is a voluntary organization of over 1,100 schools. No one is granted subpoena power or the ability to do wire taps or undercover sting operations. Because they got tipped off over two years ago that some of these activities are going on — the criminal elements of it — they were able to go in and collect this information."
quote:
"First and foremost, that a decision the school has to make. We don't reach in and tell a school that a player can or can't play tonight, unless there is an open investigation going on that's already been through a whole process. There's been no process here. We've got a report in the media. I'll let everyone make their own determination on the credibility of that... We've been in contact with every school that has a student-athlete involved."
