My apologies for the irresponsible posting
forgiven.
But I do see your point. Everyone was really excited about that new offense that was gonna keep Auburn up with the times. Then............yeah. But I still don't get how they gave up so quickly when they didn't have the offensive players for that system.
LSU for example is just now getting players at all of the offensive positions that Crowton can utilize. He didn't have that when he came here.

Does anyone think JJ and Kodi are alike?? I don't see it.
JJ looks more like JR than KB. Not to mention JJ had a very good passing day. Kodi just ran and had the luxury of Cox being on the bench to bail them out.
JJ>>>>>>> KB

point is, everyone was all on the Auburn bandwagon because of their performance in their bowl game last year. This pre-season, they were picked to win the west solely based on their bowl win and the "potential" of Kodi Burns.
This board has looked similar lately when discussing next season for LSU.

To add to that, I will guarantee you that Russell Shepard will be considered a bust because all of the hype he's getting right now. If he doesn't perform like a Freshman All-American at QB next year, even behind Jordan Jefferson, I think alot of people aren't going to be fair to him.

Prom, i'll agree with you on the "hype" thing but not with RS.
The difference is they were sorta hyping KB and their new Offensive Co. A combo of both things, at least my AU friends saw it that way.
We have a proven OC and a different QB

he will be a weapon on offense. I see him coming in for change of pace at qb for 5 or 10 snaps. I also see him possibly in the backfield getting pitches or lineing up in the slot for a couple snaps

I won't go as far as Prominent but he has a point. LSU went 7-5. We had problems defending the pass and spread teams in particular. We had serious issues at QB. And the toughest conference in the country ate us alive.
+1
They're also loosing alot on both front lines. They can reload talent wise but the attitude and lack of leadership on last year's team really surprised me.

Prom,
I'm supposed to be the downer. shite, now you've forced me to be positive.
Defense has to be better by default. They will get older and Chavis will have our LBers playing much better.
The offense I'm still concerned about. JJ played a great game, but it wasn't enough to convince me that he is the clear cut #1 next year.
Not to mention, if Chad Jones doesn't make that play in the 1st qtr and GT ties it up, I believe it comes down to the wire.

The only thing Auburn blew out was some DT's knee.

Remember, because Auburn blew Clemson out of the water in their '08 bowl, everyone was picking them to win the west this year. Their true freshman QB has a pretty good bowl game also.
This kind of pessimism belongs on a Moo State or McNeese board. On the other hand, it was an act of pure optimism to start this thread and not expect this outcome.

Apples and oranges IMHO.
Remember LSU will still have better than two dozen players who played in and won the BCSNC game not long ago and by all accounts more talent across the board than AU, no disrespect intended. Some of us were not shocked at all that Auburn struggled so much offensively in '08. On the other hand, even ESPN admits the real Tigers should be back in the top ten next year.
