Luhnow said Bregman talked to the Astros about discomfort in his elbow around New Year and that the loose bodies were discovered during a doctor visit "a couple days ago," according to the Houston Chronicle.

Both sides agreed surgery would be the best option for Bregman. “It’s a decision that he made together with us to take care of it now,” Luhnow said. “I think he probably could have been fine playing with it this season, but if it became symptomatic this season, we’d be losing games and doing it now allows us to get him back before the season starts.”

While the 24-year-old will be limited in spring training, he is expected to be healthy and ready to go by the season opener at the Rays on March 28.

Would rather him take care of it now instead of having "elbow discomfort" come August and September when he will be needed for a divisional championship and playoff run.

No. I would rather that he take care of it as soon as last season was over so that he'd have more time to rehab.

I’m sure he wishes that too but he started feeling discomfort in his elbow recently, not at the end of last season. If players could plan any surgeries around the off-season they would.

Always good to get rid of those loose bodies.

People say I’m too stiff and that I should get a loose body. Wonder what he did with all of his?
